CyanogenMod is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. CyanogenMod does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

Instructions:

First time flashing CyanogenMod 7 to the Motorola Defy, or coming from another ROM?

1. Root the device and install ClockworkMod Recovery. Instructions are available here.
2. Perform a NANDroid backup of your current ROM.
3. Format the system, data & cache partitions of your device.
4. Perform a factory reset.
5. Flash CyanogenMod.
6. Optional: Install the Google Apps addon package.

Upgrading from earlier version of CyanogenMod 7?

1. Perform a NANDroid backup of your current ROM.
2. Flash CyanogenMod (your Google Apps will be backed up & restored automatically).

Issues?

Experience issues? Please provide the following info:

• If the device was hard reboot, please provide the file "/proc/last_kmsg".
• If the device was soft reboot or is "bootlooping", please run a logcat and provide the full output.

If U are using 3G(WCDMA) and got reboot problem, please try the 2g services in settings->wireless->mobile network->use 2G only.
As I don't have 3g sim card, I can't test or fix it now, I need some logs before & in the moment when the phone reboots.
U can use cmd like " adb logcat > C:/log.txt" and "adb logcat -b radio > C:/radio.txt" to got two logs and attach in this thread to help me fix this proble.

HOW TO INSTALL
It works only on cliq2 foryo(2.2.2)
U should install the 2nd-init( bootmenu ) first.
Use the custom recovery in bootmenu to install this rom.
DON'T FORGET to do a wipe after U install this rom.

You might need an updated recovery with ext4 support to flash Beta, either flash the recovery found in ROM Manager or the one linked below.

Really this began as me just playing around bored on my day off. I said I wasn't going to take on this project, well that obviously didn't stick lol. Since the Cliq & CliqXT are now official CyanogenMod devices I thought I might attempt to get this up and running for the Backflip as well. Will this ever be 100% working? Hopefully. My goal is for this to eventually become an official CyanogenMod device. This is not Blur don't ask. I was just posting this on twitter but that has quickly gotten out of hand. 50 people report the same bugs over and over. Here there can be a little bit more organization. 1st don't demand anything from me. 2nd read all the posts for possible known issues that other users post. 3rd I don't care about bug reporting. We know the last issue which isn't even an issue lol. If you are going to nitpick go back to 2.1 seriously.

I recommend using a newer recovery for full compatibility with Rom Manager since that is part of CyanogenMod. This is my modded version of Clockwork 5.0.2.3. This is NOT the thread to ask how to flash a recovery. Sorry.

Hey guys! This is my first ROM for the G2x, first time stepping out from a moto devices to do some type of development. Anyways, this is based off the OTA gingerbread update. Focus was to make sure this is a fully functional stable rom with good battery life. Did not test with any other kernels , just stock. Considering this a beta since I have not had any tester.

-extract nandroid backup and place in (sdcard/clockworkmod/backup)
- Go to custom recovery
- Full wipe (data/cache/dalvik)+ format system just in case
- Restore nandroid backup
- reboot
