My First Razr V3i - locked gift to a newbie

Hey guys, I've just been given a Razr V3i (with itunes?) that my bud was going to throw away; it worked for him for several months, then suddenly was locked. He didnt have time to play with it, so now I have it.
I'm definately a newbie when it comes to flashing phones, and i'm hoping to find some info here that even I can follow :zombie:
to make the phone work here in Canada.

I've read enough to keep me from just plugging in and turning the phone into a 'brick', so a sequence of events or direction to go would be really helpful and appreciated. My s/w is
Boot Loader 0A.30
SW R47A_G_08.D8.88R
I've read that its decently easy to re-flash the phone so it has no branding, no service provider locks etc, so it 'could' work, but i've found so many different s/w versions and so many different ways to do this that now i'm not sure WTF to start with... Anyone willing to spend a little time and kick a canuck in the right direction?

Hello and welcome to modmymoto.

Sounds like all you need to do is unlock it, then unbrand it.
I would start in the Guides section and go from there.:biggerGrin:
If the phone is still under warranty, I would call his original service provider and perhaps they can give you the unlock code, that way you don't have to go through the unlock process.

My guess is that at some point, the mods will move this to the V3i thread, in case you come back here and don't see it.

OK so i've managed to get a copy of RSD Lite 3.2, and it sees the phone. I've started to follow the guide in the section you specified, but I get the dreaded 404 'not found' page when going to http://www.modmymoto.com/guides/v3i/flashingflexing.php

Also, i'm not 100% sure what version of software and bootloader I should use RSD to upload into the V3i, I was at R47A_G_08.D8.88R, bootloader 0A.30
I see some unlock methods using previous software / bootloader versions, but when I downloaded that version and try to upload it to the phone, the phone says "critical error"... With the 404 error, i'm not sure what to do next...

we haven't gotten the V3i guides section up yet! We will get it up by this weekend. The process for flashing/flexing is the same for all phones so look at a flashing and flexing guides for the l7 or v3 and you'l get the basic idea
