E8 Newbie need Help
Hey
I just got an e8 and i would like to flash my phone with the final myth flash (normal version)
At least i don't want to kill my phone and i have no idea how to figure out if this flash will work with my phone so my first question is:
How to figure out which firmware and bootloader i have right now?
And what is a bootloader?
More questions will follow
Thx for any help

Hi! Welcome

Yes, once you flash the NoRsa boot, you can flash any MP (monster pack).
To know what bootloader version you have, just turn your phone on by pressing # + * + the power button at the same time.
Possible bootloader versions are:
06.A3
06.A5
06.A9
06.AA
06.AC
this is an example of what you should see: 21449477.png
Once you know it, download the NoRsa boot and the patched CG31 for your bootloader, from here: [noRSA] Bootloaders for E8, Patched CG31 for E8
Flashing these files allow you to use unsigned firmwares (not original FW from Motorola), such as the final myth that you want...
Once you have flashed NoRsa and the patched CG31, now you can flash the MP that you want
This is the guide for flashing those files: [Guide] Flashing Linux Motorola's with RSD Lite Versions
As it explains, the process of each flashing file finishes when it shows PASS, in case you get please manually power this phone on, disconnect and then take the battery out and reinsert it (donīt close RDS lite!), and turn again in boot mode, connect to pc so now RSD lite shows you "PASS".
Basically, a bootloader is like the BIOS of your computer. And what is a bootloader?
It manages the hardware of your phone, and it loads the OS (the firmware).

thank you very much

my bootloader was 06A3
i flashed my phone succesfully with the final myth normal package but the skin was unusuable in my opinion, so i reflashed my phone with the extended version...
is there a better package than final myth?
because i've just read this:
at least i would like to use some other skins... so what flash would you recommend? That's new evolution but when you use this version, remember that old skins may be not compatible with this version (some icons)
by the way, i have no idea how to add skins
Additionaly i don't get used to the music player of the e8 because i'm not able to create a playlist based on the folders on my memory card

Download E8 skins from here: Skinning Linux

Download and install E8 MGX Apps from here: http://modmymobile.com/downloads.php?do=cat&id=821 (Some apps may be already included in your MP).
You have a huge list of different apps: Games, games emulators, Video players, Music players, System tools, Document viewers, Text Editors, etc
It exists another e8 MPs that you may be interested:

I solved the Problem with my music player and i got some new skins but i got several problems with the emulators...
i still try to find an emulator which is able to play gameboy and gameboy color games with full speed but i can't find anything good...
At least i got a good nes emulator called fce ultra but anyway it would also be great to play some gba games on decent speed.
I tried ExzGPSP but i don't like it because it's too slow and I CAN'T TURN THE SOUND OFF?!
It also crashes very often..
so i tried exzvba and at least it's able to play some gbc games but it's nearly impossible to configure this emulator
i don't want to be offensive to anyone but could it be that the modder szene for this phone have almost disappeared? ;(
anyway i would be thankful for any recommendations of any emulators for this phone
greets

Mate, to run some emulators and native games (Quake, Doom, etc), you need to create a swap file in your memory card. I recommend a swap of 64Mb.
Surely, you must have included and application or tool for creating that swap memory.
Once itīs created, you will note how fast your games run and the general performance of the system improves.
You have to disable the swap memory before conecting to pc as Mass Storage mode (memory card mode), or else, your phone will freeze. :S
If you donīt wanna do this (because it may be annoying to do this each time), connect the phone to pc as Modem & Tools Mode; and use the program Filezilla or another FTP client program to view and transfer data.
To do this, just connect your phone as Modem&Tools mode, and open Filezilla. Once there, write in Server: 192.168.16.2 and in Username: root and press Enter. If succesfull, you should view the phone system files in the right of your screen
PS: In Windows 7, i think that Telnet and FTP services are not enabled by default, perhaps you will need to enable those features, first...
Try this and tell us how it works now

at least i got final myth (normal version)....
so a program for memory swap is already integrated in the system and the description says that it won't make problems to the usb connection... so i enabled memory swap (70mb) and i also installed the newest libs,
my phone has become faster but anyway i got some problems with most of the emulators.
all these emulators look like they all was never finished
there is much more potencial in a cpu that can run with up to 500 Mhz...
here is my list:
EzxPSX (Playstation 1 Emulator): very, veeery slow but it works... no specific settings, probably based on interpreter
Pcsx4all (Playstation 1 emulator): can't start any of my games, only interpreter(which is always slooooooooow)
Snes2x (Snes Emulator): bad compatiblity, horrible controls that can not be changed, no fullscreen
E8 Ezxemu (Snes Emulator): bad compability, laggy menu
FCE Ultra V2 (NES Emulator): great compability, fullscreen, good menu < all in all it works great
EzxVBA (Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance Emulator): Perfect compability for gb and gbc, perfect speed for gb and gbc, good menu for settings ... bad compability with gba, very slow for gba, make your screen crash sometimes(have to reboot :/)
GPSP (Gameboy Advance Emulator): gba compability is better as exzvba, very slow
Gnuboy2x (Gameboy, Gameboy Color) : bad compability, slow as hell, crash very often
In conclusion the only usable things are FCE Ultra V2 and EzxVBA so lastly GameBoy,Gameboy Color and NES are playable, the rest is unusable???
I mean what's that??
the rokr e2 is able to emulate gba at FULL SPEED!!
the e8 got a better cpu than this thing but at least nobody ever ported the gba emulator for the e2 to the e8.
this is kinda sad
Please answer
- 02-12-2012, 03:05 PM #8Ok, greatso a program for memory swap is already integrated in the system and the description says that it won't make problems to the usb connection... so i enabled memory swap (70mb) and i also installed the newest libs,

Yes thatīs true.all these emulators look like they all was never finished
Realise that the modding time of rokr E8 is way minor than rokr E2.
Today, rokr e8 modding is almost dead, execpt for the releasing of new MPs once in a while.
The better phone for games is rokr z6. It has a lot of working games and emulators ported to that phone.
Rokr e8 highlights in better skins and apps for improving the appearence.
Forget it! :S It wonīt be playable. Neither in E2.EzxPSX (Playstation 1 Emulator): very, veeery slow but it works... no specific settings, probably based on interpreter
Pcsx4all (Playstation 1 emulator): can't start any of my games, only interpreter(which is always slooooooooow)
Only perhaps with some "light" games, or 2D games.
Try with a swapfile of 128Mb, anyway donīt make illusion about playing PS1 games with a great performance u_u
Here it is another version of this emulator: [MGX] EzxGPSPEzxVBA (Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance Emulator): Perfect compability for gb and gbc, perfect speed for gb and gbc, good menu for settings ... bad compability with gba, very slow for gba, make your screen crash sometimes(have to reboot :/)
GPSP (Gameboy Advance Emulator): gba compability is better as exzvba, very slow
Here you got more Emulators: [mgx] EZX NEO CD + E8PSX + EZXMAME
(MAME + NEO GEO CD)
[E8/EM30] PicoDrive 1.35a
(SEGA GENESIS + MEGA CD )
And Native Games:
[Game]Alpha one
[MGX] The Legend OF Zelda ROTH (mi primer port en SDL)
[MGX] Doom port for e8
[MGX|E8] Quake

The e2 doesn't get produced anymore and that just shows that the prdoucer only concentrate on something new which is not always better.
anyway i got new problems with the music player..
sometimes it happens that the music just stops for a part of a second which is more annoying as it sounds like..
any idea how to fix it?
maybe i should install the new mp called RevolutionSpeed0.1 ???
at least it's able to get the cpu up to more than 700mhz
I got a 32gb microsd from kingston... maybe that's the problem? please answer
- 02-16-2012, 11:11 AM #10No, Revolution Speed is a MP for rokr EM30!maybe i should install the new mp called RevolutionSpeed0.1 ???
I donīt think it reaches that speed.at least it's able to get the cpu up to more than 700mhz
Anyway, itīs not convenient to set your phone processor at maximum speed or high overcloking. High Mhz may be useful for some applications (such as games), but it may affect the stability of the system; and moreover your battery runs out sooner.
I would recommend you to set the speed processor at a normal speed (400Mhz should be enough). You DONīT need 700Mhz to play a mp3 with fluency. In my e2 i listen mp3 with 204Mhz and it sounds OK
If you canīt find a solution, flash with another firmware. A recent firmware not necesary means that itīs the best one. Find and flash a firmware that fits with you.
If the problem persists even without the microSd, then itīs not the problem...I got a 32gb microsd from kingston... maybe that's the problem?Last edited by Xtian89; 02-16-2012 at 11:14 AM.

i flashed my phone with lizu 2.0 but the problem with the music lags persisted...
Maybe i should format my memory card to an exFAT filesystem??
the current filesystem is FAT32...
NTFS would also be a possible solution.
Please reply
- 02-23-2012, 11:34 AM #12
Are you sure that MPs supports NTFS??
Try formatting at least 2Gb with FAT (fat16), and the rest FAT32 and/or EXT3
Place the music files in the different partitions, and test in which format it lags.
As last testing, use a memory card of a minor capability

i formatted my card with exfat...
at least my card doesn't get detected by the e8
what is ext3 and how to use it?
- 02-23-2012, 04:22 PM #14
Ext3 and ext4 are used in Linux OS, such as Ubuntu.
E8 is able to work with an Ext3 partition because this phone is a Linux based phone, and ext3 is better than FAT
The problem is that ext3 is not recognized in Windows when you connect it as Memory card mode. In this case, is better to use an FTP client, such as Filezilla, to view all partitions (connected as Modem&Tools mode).
