Cliq and Cliq XT are finally gonna get 2.1

Motorola is working on upgrades to the latest version of Google's smartphone operating system for two models offered by T-Mobile. They are going to be the first devices with MotoBlur upgraded to Android OS 2.1.

Motorola Cliq XT.The system software upgrades are scheduled for release before the end of June.

    New in Android OS 2.1
The latest version of Google's mobile OS sports many new features, including much greater support for speech-to-text, allowing users to enter text into an application with only their voice.

In addition, "pinch-to-zoom" multi-touch has been added to the web browser, photo viewer and maps applications, and OS 2.1 offers enhanced weather and news widgets.

More about the Motorola Cliq and Cliq XT
The Motorola Cliq debuted from T-Mobile last October, and this was followed by the March debut of the Cliq XT. Both have a 3.1-inch HVGA (320 x 240 pixel) touchscreen, but the original has a sliding keyboard, while the latest uses a tablet shape sans keyboard.

Both run Android OS 1.5 with MotoBlur, Motorola's software that brings together messages from a range of social-networking services, text messages and email into a universal inbox. MotoBlur has fans, but there's been criticism for the delay in releasing system software upgrades for devices that use it.

    Cliq XT Update Coming?
Posted at 11:00 am EDT, April 26th, 2010 by David.

Almost identical to the previous original Motorola Cliq trial update that we saw a while back, this update will be seeded to a lucky few prior to a general release. With some nice highlights, it might be worth heading over to the official T-Mobile forums and subscribing to this thread and trying to partake and be a part of the trial period. With improved overall phone performance, visual voicemail enhancements, Bluetooth audio improvements, camera corrections, screen and display performance enhancements, text messaging improvements and touch screen enhancements update 1.31.43 looks to be quite the bug fix.

Remember this is a trial update for only 1,000 people right now, those not selected will receive their updates with the general public at a to be determined date!

Software Update for Motorola CLIQ XT™ (1.31.44)

    After Update.
