After three years of declining sales, is set to return to growth and will consider acquisitions once the spinoff of its handset business is complete, according to Co-Chief Executive Officer Greg Brown.
“When we are independent in 2011, there will be some opportunities for us to do some non-organic things,” Brown said today in an interview at Bloomberg’s headquarters in New York. Areas for possible acquisitions include security and surveillance, he said.
Motorola is aiming to capitalize on the rebound in spending by carriers and governments, which had put off buying the company’s mobile phones and network equipment amid the recession, Brown said. The company is also preparing to spin off its mobile-phone unit in the first quarter of 2011 amid a wider reorganization.
He plans to capitalize on demand for new, higher-capacity wireless equipment. Fourth-generation technology, which allows wireless providers to handle more of the data traffic generated by smartphones, this remembering that Motorola is one of the main involves in 4G networking.
The company said in February the mobile-phone unit will merge with the set-top box division, and the combined entity will be headed by Sanjay Jha.
I also agree
It's rather positive to have someone focused on helping the division than the hole company, sure it has a Jerarchy and usually there's people taking care of that, but if the big guy (aka. Jha) takes care of it, i'm happier :]
The main point of the article, is that Moto is not just sleeping on Droid's, on Cliq's, etc; they're tryin to move on, buying companies and expanding themselves is a pretty good way to do that, and usually the best, if you play your cards well (Mr. Warren Buffett made most of his fortune that way).
