    [Announcement] Motorola Milestone XT720

Motorola’s new Milestone XT720 is set to become the first Google Android 2.1 phone with an 8mp, xenon-flash camera. The new handset is the follow-up to Motorola’s original Milestone (Droid), which was hugely successful in America.

One of Motorola’s Android phones that appeared in China first, the XT701, will be released in South Korea next month via SK Telecom (the country’s largest mobile operator), under a different name: Motorola XT720.

According to Telecoms Korea, the XT720 will be South Korea’s first Android phone – so last year’s rumors seem to be more than just rumors after all.

With a 3.7” screen and an HDMI port, the device targets a market of photo and video fans who have historically been underserved by Android handsets. It will offer 10x digital zoom, a 720p HD camcorder and smart image capture which includes easy panorama, face detection, multi-shot (six shots in a row), face filter, red eye reduction and camera shake prevention. An 8gb memory card is also included.

Although the handset also includes Motorola’s Motonav satellite navigation, it does not run Android 2.2, the forthcoming, new version of Google’s mobile operating system that offers faster performance and runs Adobe’s Flash technology that is used on a significant number of websites.

Motorola declined to comment on whether the handset would receive the upgrade. No devices have yet been released that already run Android 2.2, although it was demonstrated at Google’s IO conference in May. The web giant has yet to announce any release dates.

The XT720 will be available for pre-order at eXpansys.com, play.com and Clove from 11 June 2010.

Motorola launches Milestone XT720 in Singapore
    Damian Koh | Jun 09, 2010

From tomorrow, Singapore will get another Android 2.1 smartphone. The Motorola Milestone XT720 will be available exclusively from StarHub and will cost between S$0 and S$198 depending on which plan you sign up with. The announcement of the Milestone XT720 comes after the Milestone XT701 which was launched recently in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The biggest difference between the two models is the camera resolution. The XT720 comes with an 8-megapixel camera (5 megapixels on the XT701) with 720p high-definition video capture. The phone also supports HDMI, HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity. The touchscreen measures 3.7 inches with a resolution of 854 x 480 pixels. We have a review unit in our Labs, so look out for our evaluation in the coming weeks.
