File installation on my K1 ...
Greetings,
I recently downloaded a couple of files which I need to install onto my K1. Problem is that the 'Motorola Phone Tools' software doesn't seem to want to transfer the files for me !
The 2 files have .jad and a .jar extension to them and I cant figure out how or where they r supposed to be installed to as they are program files (gps)
The installation instructions simply say : "Download via your PC ... Click Here to download the application file to your PC and from there to your mobile phone using your PC-Phone sync program. Please write down the user name and password submitted to you on this site. You’ll be asked to insert them on the first time you open the application on your mobile phone (required only once)."
Any assistance would be greatly welcomed. Thanks

do you have a memory card.
if yes, connect your mob to the computer as memory card.
transfer the files on the card.
on your mobile, go to java apps>install new. install the program
else, re-post. i'll tell what to doLast edited by Nayar; 07-18-2008 at 01:37 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Great !
Many thanks ....
At least someone talks 'simple English'
Not all of us have the knowledge yet ... it's a steep learning curve, which I'm climbing !
So many thanks again for the polite assistance ... you would not believe some of the 'slagging offs' I've had from the 'geeks' simply because I lake the knowledge they have but all I say to them is, that they too once were without knowledge !
Anyway, thank you once again. I'll repost once I've tried what you tell me.
Greetings once again ...
Have done as you advise re the file transfer to the memory card ... but cannot find any way to navigate to the java apps>install new as you advise, as there appears to be nothing in the phone's navigation/menu that points to 'java apps' ??
Or maybe I'm missing something more elemental here ??
Sorry to be such a pain !
Thanks anywayLast edited by maxicomm; 07-18-2008 at 02:08 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

1. You need to copy the jar and jad files to a folder called Kjava on your memory card.
2. Goto Main menu->games and apps->install new.

Hi,
Sorry to be a pain again ... I've looked at the memory card and it doesn't display a folder called Kjava, even though when I try to create one, it advises that I cannot use that name as there is a folder already called that !
I've made sure that the show hidden files and folders is checked in the folder options too, but it still doesn't show up.
Can you tell me how to locate the Kjava folder please as I can't see it in any of the folders under the H:/ structure which the card adopots in the card reader ??
Many thanks in anticipation of your assistance.

Greetings ...
No, I've looked in there and it does not show up ... however it is in there as a hidden folder, 'cos when I try to create a new folder, I am advised that there is already a folder by that name present.
However, what I've managed to do is to create a new folder ABOVE the mobile folder in the tree, paste the files into that folder which I named Kjava, and then drop that new Kjava folder onto the mobile folder .... the op system advises that there is already a folder with that name and that any files with the same name will be over written ... accept, YES TO ALL ... and that's it ...
Well, that's how I've done it ... don't know if it's how the geeks do it, but it worked for me !
Many, many thanks for your patience and assistance ... nice to find a friendly face on the planet.

Hi,
Do you know if the GPRS on the K1 needs to be 'activated' in some way or is it available all the time by default ?
I just got off the phone with Motorola Support and they can't tell me !!!! ... other than the fact that they say the phone is GPRS enabled in the specification !
This is a real 'grey' world ... LOL
ThanksLast edited by maxicomm; 07-18-2008 at 09:49 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Hey dude!
If your cell phone is "mounted" in Windows as (Eg) "H:", you shoud type in your Windows Explorer address bar: "H:\mobile\kjava". Then u'll be inside that folder.
This is really weird, since even if u enable Windows Explorer to show the hidden files and folders, the hidden folders inside the Mem Card keep hidden anyway. lol
This happens to me all the time. It really sucks writing everytime the full address in the f** bar.
Oh, the GPRS in K1 is "factory enabled".
Good luck!

Hi,
Thanks for that input ... I thought I was going off my trolly there for a mo ! lol
Re the GPRS thing ... does that mean then that if I install this 'amAze' software that the phone should act as it's own gprs receiver like the ENTAC bluetooth that I have for my PDA ???
THe reason why I'm asking was that that was much as I thought it should be, but the software keeps asking for a GPRS device.
Thanks again for the great assistance on this friendly BB ;-)
