made some additional tests on different os (vista) and with different card-reader. still getting the same error:
    Code:
    Drive letter?: d
    makepla.exe (<drive>)
    Note: Cannot Find Requested Data
    Press enter to exit
i even simplified filenames, etc. to make sure it's not somthing related to filenames:
    Code:
    D:>dir /s /b
    D:\mobile
    D:\mobile\audio
    D:\mobile\audio\radio
    D:\mobile\audio\_Playlists
    D:\mobile\audio\radio\rain
    D:\mobile\audio\radio\rain\body.mp3
    D:\mobile\audio\radio\rain\asteps.mp3
    what else could i try?

    Creates empty Playlist folder

Hi - I'm SOOO frustrated - I've read this thread from front to back, download the makepla program, and can't get it to work.

(Phone is SLVR red - but the mass storage device contents are as you'd expect - mobile\audio\artist\album. MSD drive is G)

I've ensured I've followed the required file structure. I've even cleared everything else out so that there is literally just one artist & album under the audio folder.

Ive even run it off the hard drive by re-creating that folder structure on a local drive.

In all cases the file runs, says "Done!" just before it closes, and creates the _Playlist folder. But it is empty :-(

Please FaberfoX, could you put up a debug version of this program so I can see where it is failing (or perhaps despite my assurances I haven't actually given it the right set of inputs).

I've tried renaming the MSD name (now just SLVR).

    I'm running out of ideas.

    Screen grab attached.

HELP ANYONE PLEASE. Mid thirties male's sanity at severe risk... You wouldn't want to see a vein pop over this festive period would you?

    ;-)

Your inputs seem to be alright. The only thing I can think of - as a last resort - backup everything from your card, format it (preferably with the phone, disconnected from your computer indeed) and put everything back, and run the program again. I am just speculating, but maybe you have a different file system (FAT32) on your card and that may cause some problems.
    Hope this helps.

Recreating the structure on a local hard drive won't work. Playlist is index to FAT table which is obviously different on different drives. You have to use the program on the phone (or memory card in card reader should work too).

I guess it will work for all the phones that use the .pla playlist format.
It seems like you have forgotten on a promise to make a new version with few improvements? So we do not have to fix folder structure any particular way but can leave the standard organisation where Categories normally work.

This is not what your pic shows.

it shows wrong way (which is what we requested to be normal way):

mobile\audio\leftism\song.mp3 is not good. it must be like:

    mobile\audio\mp3\leftism\song.mp3

    or

    mobile\audio\leftism\album\song.mp3

you need an extra level. Which you can delete after you make a playlists and revert to the:
    mobile\audio\leftism\

this really should be in the Z3 forum.
and i am using XxSebZeroxX, with the digital audio player 05.01.19, i dont know if it will let you create an all song playlist but has an all songs menu that you can play out of.

    Error message

Does anyone knows what this error message means:

    Drive letter?: F
    makepla.exe (<drive>)
Note: string index out of range
    Press enter to exit

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Another thing I was wondering of. makepla.exe creates a playlist. And it’s not empty. However, when cell phone opens it up (L9) it sees nothing there and treats it as empty one. Is there any cure for it?

    Thanks.

Just a wild guess: make sure the file system on your memory card is FAT, not FAT32.
