    K1 without sound

Hi all. I've been lurking for quite a while, since I got my first p2k phone, but this is the first time I couldn't solve my problems by reading old posts. So, this is the story:

A few weeks ago I purchased through ebay a new K1.
Yesterday I noticed that the mobile wasn't ringing anymore, even though the volume was set to high (7). I tried playing mp3s and the standard ringtones to no avail. Recorded sounds won't play, and videos will play without sound.

I cannot connect the mobile using p2k tools because it has the infamous R47121_G_08.01.11R firmware, even though the mobile is unlocked.

I recorded a short video and even though the sound won't play on the mobile, it will if I transfer the file to the computer using Motorola Phone Tools. I attempted switching it on and off, I entered boot loader mode, played around with MPT, swapped sim cards from various carriers (none of them were fido or rogers, tho - I'm on a different continent). Nothing seemed to help.

Returning it to the seller or exchanging it is not an option for me at the moment. I'd like to try to fix it myself without having to ship it back overseas. I haven't flashed a mobile before, but I'm willing to give it a try.

    Some more information:
    Bootloader 0D.C0.
    Flex:gshcnryyfid01na0ad
    SW DSP: 633b3b00

Is there anything I could try doing to solve this issue? I'm puzzled because nothing changed on this mobile except that I left it on standby without a sim card for a day or so -- could that have made a difference?.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated - Thanks!

Thanks for your reply, I had gone through most of those threads already, but I couldnīt find any specific references to my problem.

Finally, I found this thread K1 with no sound? which gave me the idea of plugging the headset to see if there was any sound. Indeed, I can hear everything through the usb headphones, and I can hear sound once a call connects, but it seems the loudspeaker is either broken or disconnected (Iīd like to think thereīs a loose connection somewhere!).
Slapping it wonīt work, and I donīt dare to hit it harder in case I break something else (I never dropped it or misstreated it, so I donīt know why this problem occured in the first place).

Iīve been looking at the dismantling wiki article KRZR K1 Taking it Apart - Guides but Iīm unsure of what I would be looking for. Iīm guessing Iīd need to go as far as removing the back and perhaps the board. And would the speaker be connected with some sort of plug, or just soldered?

Does anybody have any advice to give me before I go shopping for a torx 5 screwdriver? Iīm trying to know what Iīm going to get into...

    Thanks in advance!

all you have to do is take off the back housing, the speaker is on that part. just try and clean some stuff up, and put it back together.
Was the phone sounding staticy(cant believe thats not a word) before it stopped working? if so, the odds are the speakers toast.
Thanks Sublime1184 for the awesome siggy

Thanks MotoMudder. Before reading your answer I slapped it harder on the back (mostly out of impatience and frustration), and the sound is working again. By the way, the speakers arenīt sounding staticy at all (thatīs a good word, tho).

Iīm debating myself between opening it tomorrow when thereīs more natural light, and see if thereīs anything obvious in there, or sticking to common sense and not trying to fix whatīs not (too) broken.

Because this mobile is not for myself, itīs for my mum, Iīm hesitant to tell her "If it doesnīt work, slap it hard" -- that doesnīt sound like a Iīm giving her a very good present!

Thanks for all the help... what would you guys do if you were in my place -- to try to fix or not to fix, thatīs the question...
