same problem here as harpezoid, but when i press * + # while putting in the battery i get into "dual boot for motorola K1 By GandjaFuzz & Vilko" and i can use flash&backup to upload another firmware.
update:
this firmware worked pretty well, my phone is now running again. FINALLY.

@ pvolks - I know about the new version, its not the drivers it the fone, I know it, its PDS corrupt.
@ Clarkey - U can try I have the same boot loader as yours and so far I am still in process of tryin to get the fone workin again. It should work, since once TP those patched bootloaders work.Unlocked RSA Removed Blue K1 With Dual Boot Running R452F_G_08.03.08R GSTCNRYCIN01NA103 eXtensively Custom Modded Perfectly!!

i meant the 42.0b version. what i did before was precisely doing what was described in here (after i bricked my phone using the other tutorial on the board and had to TP it).
the things you should try:
1) power up the phone using the red key while holding down * and #, having this neat bootloader popping up on your phone's screen.
2) use flash&backup to install the 42.0b version
3) phone will turn off, followed by a white screen for approx. 10 seconds, then the phone should work normally.
hope this helps..

hehe! I used the wrong file and now I just have a white screen, can't even turn it off!
I'm only laughing so I don't cry! Does this now mean I need to do a testpoint? Seeing as this has been beyond me so far, is that something I should attempt? If not is there anyone here in the UK can fix this for a few quid?

I can fix it, i have an ultima box and can do testpoints, lets see if you can do it yourself first though eh?
take your battery out and hold *+# while putting it back in
