Travel Charger Pinout
Now, this must be posted somewhere in this forum, but the search features hasn't been of much help.
I've read the user manual, and it has me rather concerned. If the battery dies, the phone must be recharged with the travel charger. I've got my theories as to why, but those are less important.
My problem is, I have no travel charger. I'm USB only. I'd also like to charge it without my computer on if at all possible.
So, there must be a way that the phone knows it's plugged into a travel charger instead of a computer and hopefully it doesn't need any additional circuitry to figure that out. Any ideas on how to do this? I may just sit down with a 5v supply and a stripped port and see if it just looks for +5 or ground on the data in/out lines.

im not quite sure what you are asking - if you only charge via USB then the computer has to be on for the USB port to have power - and the phone detects that the computer is connected via the drivers.
If you are trying to charge the phone via USB even when it won't switch on (batt dead) then you will have no luck as the phone wont be detected by the computer and the drivers wont switch the phone into the right mode.
If you trying to use the computer like a travel charger (with the batt dead) then you might be able to just use the +v output of the USB to charge the phone, but i think there are some resister values that will be needed to switch the phone into charger mode !!!
I'm sure there are some post about this somewhere and i will try and do an advanced search for you in the next few days.
If you could define what it is you are trying to do i will do my best to help

Haha! Reviving my thread back from the dead!
So the inevitable happened today; my L2's batteries ran out. Phone was dead. I'd tried messing with the pinouts before, but just for kicks I went and did another google search. Found this page:
http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=127488
I guess if there's any load on the white wire (Data in?) the phone won't charge. Right now the battery icon doesn't blink, but the phone goes from dead to alive when I pull -D high (whatever that is) while Vcc connected to +5 and ground to well, ground.Simply cutting away the white wire is all you have to do. Now we can build a cable with a standard USB head to allow its use to charge on ANY desktop and ANY car usb charger. Neat huh?
It won't start unless -D is high, so just feeding the power pins won't work.Last edited by RandomInsano; 07-01-2008 at 01:35 AM.

I may be able to clear some of your doubts... A week ago my Motorola Travel Charger (Model
CH3-05EU-0300) stopped working, I tested it with a multimeter and concluded that the charger's itself had gone bad and the USB plug was fine.. The funny thing was that whenever I connected the charger it didn’t charge, but the phone gave a beep and the screen lit up. I always thought there was some circuit in the charger itself which allowed it to charge without any ‘drivers’, which is clearly wrong as I found out later. YOU ALL CAN TRY THIS YOURSELF, JUST TAKE THE TRAVEL CHARGER AND CONNECT IT TO THE PHONE WITHOUT CONNECTING IT TO THE ELECTRICAL WALL SOCKET, THE SCREEN SHOULD LIGHT UP!!!. I primarily use the wall charger so I needed it working again and didn’t want to get a new one. So I set about fixing it. I had a spare Sony Erricson charger lying about with a 4.9 V output which was close enough. I cut the Motorola Original Charger off and saw that there are just two wires (No Black or Red just insulated copper wires) connecting the USB Plug. On the other hand my Spare Sony Ericcson had one RED and one BLACK. So it was as simple as connecting the two together and amazingly my phone was charging again. For clarity I now have a Hybrid HALF SONY ERRICSON (Wall Plug)-HALF MOTOROLA(USB Plug) Charger.
My point is that if you don’t have a Travel Charger, you can make one yourself.. You just need a Generic (Any Brand) +/- 5 v Spare Charger and a USB Plug. You can cut up a spare USB cable if you have one...

Your instructions are not clear to me. I have the same problem, where I need to charge the phone when I plug it into any USB port, but my phone will light up and then shut off if I did not plug it into a PC with the drivers running.
I have several generic travel chargers with the USB port, but they behave like the PC without the drivers.
I remember seeing a post on this forum where you could use PK-Tools and change something in the phone so it will just charge in any USB port (without driver). But for the life of me I have searched and cannot find it again.
Is it possible to just connect a resistor from the +5 to -D and keep it high; will that work? I wonder?Last edited by ayonbaxter; 06-18-2011 at 09:09 AM.

Motorola RAZR, RIZR, Z8 mini-USB Charger pinout and wiring @ pinouts.ru
Google is your friend.
zedbra - link would be good sticky in General P2K (if mirrored). Applies to all P2K phones.Last edited by Saurus; 06-26-2011 at 06:48 AM.
