Thread: Why did you choose your name?

Why did you choose your name?
I've been curious for a while about why people chose their forum name or "nick."
For example, I've been curious about Dumba, zedbra, Skrilax_CZ, CandymanMike, and others.
So here's a thread to post why you chose your name, if you are comfortable telling.
Danation: It's because my name is Dan. When I was about 12, my friends thought it was funny that "Dan" sounded like "Damn." They would frequently say "Dan you!" etc. (it was immature, but it was all in good fun.) After a while, the novelty of the wordplay wore off, but my nickname became Danation as a play on "Damnation." This is also why my signature always has flames, and my avatar is the robot devil from Futurama.

So why did you choose yours?

haha, my story is not so glamorous. actually while trying to complete registration for email. it seemed as though every username i chose was taken, thus in an effort to be an idiot i chose zedbra... guess nobody thought of that name and i stuck with it

dont even know how it popped into my head, maybe i change my nick to plain 'ol ZED. much easier i think

Pretty simple, as you might think. I am a sublime fanatic. Shocking right lol I found their music in a time that I didn't have anything that I was passionate about, especially music wise. I think I was 11 when I first heard one of their albums and it blew me away. The next year the lead singer died and I never got a chance to see them live. Every time I stop listening to them for a while, makes me appreciate it more when I get back into it. Anyway, so sublime from that and then 1184 is my birth month & year. When I first got internet, I tried to register sublime @ aol or netzero and it told me name is taken, and then it added 1184 as a suggestion and I took it. In H.S. someone kept introducing me as sub and it's stuck since. The few friends I still hang out with from H.S. still call me sub lol

Our dog had very large Ears whilst beeing a puppy. So it looked like Dumbo the flying elefant. But because she is female, and in portuguese, female names and nouns end on A, we called her Dumba.
When I startet to need a Nick in Forums, I just borrowed hers. So it is actually not mine, but she doesn't mind, I am sure.
And because it is such a stupig unpretending or cool name, I never ever found it taken by anybody else but me,
.

Didn't know why 'dumba', i just knew that it is his dog's name...
Me:
I lke the star shape so...
I am a star -> Imastar -> I prefer 'Z' than 's' so: imaztar -> I really like band called Attaque 77, and the used to type 'A77aque' Using '77' instead of the double 'T' so...
Imaz77ar lol (the main idea was stolen from Imahotguy, someone remember him?)

Ghost comes from Need For Speed Most Wanted, I was playing around and found this guy called Ghost, and liked the name. Then I changed to GHOST as it looked more awsome, Sub7 as you might now was a linked website to my brothers forum (he designed sub7 website) so I say to my self, lets take 7, so I went GHOST7, but people only thought that I tool the name by a suggestion so changed to GHOSTSEVEN. I got bored of the name and changed to GHOSTS3V3N. After becoming a DJ I only added DJ becoming my nick right know. DJGHOSTS3V3N

When I was 16, I got a knoppix CD. It had a game called tuxracer. So I registered everywhere because I was the tuxracer. Plus, I like the word tux, being a linux fan that I am. And hence the name stuck . Now all my friends call me tux, for short.
PS: Danation nice thread

good idea Danation! at the time when i signed up here at M3, i was working for a candy company as a delivery driver. most of the people i would deliver to would say something like "hey the candy man is here" when i showed up to make a delivery. so to most of my customers i was "candy man". a few of my friends (especially girls) thought it was cute to call me candy man at the time also. so it became a nickname of mine. and being that "candyman" is taken on most websites and my name is mike, i started using "candymanmike" because it was available.
i have always read it as "i'm a star". guess "i'm a smart"! lol.Last edited by CandymanMike; 04-20-2011 at 03:33 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
