Unlocked MotoRIZR Z3 sends text message to *453 every day

Hi...

I bought an unlocked Motorola RIZR Z3 phone from Overstock.com, to use on the Rogers GSM network in Canada. It works fine - very cool phone - but every time it gets switched on, it sends an automatic text message to *453. I believe this has something to do with T-Mobile, the carrier the phone was originally intended to be used with.

As Rogers charges for text messages, this means that my "pay as you go" balance gets charged 25 cents just for turning the phone on.

Rogers claims it's a problem with the phone, which appears to be correct, as transferring the SIM card to a different unlocked GSM phone makes the problem go away.

I originally thought this would be an easy fix - just disable all text messaging, which I never use anyway. Rogers said I could do this before I signed up for the phone, and then later changed their mind, saying texting couldn't be turned off (after I'd paid $40 for the SIM card and topped it up with $10.)

Can anyone suggest how to resolve this? I really like this phone, but a 25 cent charge to turn it on doesn't quite work for me.

what's your s/w version? Dial *#9999# from home screen.

If it's R452F1, it's probably an error because of it being a T-Mobile branded mp (monsterpack). An easy solution is to flash over to R452B and I'm pretty sure that will solve your problem. If you are not running R452F1, you can try some other options. Let me know your s/w version first...

--- Getting Connected
--- Back it up
--- Flashing/Flexing


Here is the monsterpack to flash that will switch you to R452B:


--- Stock Singapore MP


After flashing this mp, you WILL lose all you're personal data including contacts, messages, pictures saved to phone, etc...so make sure you backup what you need to backup first. In order to pull your contacts easily, you can follow the guide for backing up contacts using Radiocomm.

I flashed the new firmware, and when I restart the phone normally, it says:

...and it goes no further.

What should I do next?

yes, put phone in bootloader mode (hold * and # keys while inserting battery) then flash thelaxplaya's mp. Usually the singapore mp works to switch from F1 to 2B but not this time I guess lol

lol I knew it, my mp has saved many z3's so glad its working now! I hardley ever check here anymore though, I haven't had a z3 or a moto in about a yr

if it still doesn't work, you can try changing the service center number as suggested here

hi all ... iam new here too and when iam see the post "how unlock Z3" it says "ms tool", but i cant download it ... its all with viruses, trojans ... can someone give me a link?? iam trying unlock my Z3 at 3 years ago :S

ms tool is considered warez, no one can provide a link, keep trying with google. Also, this is the wrong thread to post that in.

I am having the same problem as the OP.Did the flashing stop the phone from sending unwanted text messages? Help please. I had to have ATT stop my sms service so I wouldn't get charged for these unwanted text messages.
