[Guide] How to use Windows Motomodding apps in Linux Including flash and backup

How to use Windows Motomodding apps in Linux Including flash and backup
    A guide by KN100
Notice: I don't take any responsibility for damage to your pc or your phone
This has ONLY been tested in Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04.

    ---
    What you will need:
    Ubuntu 9.04 - http://ubuntu.com/
    Virtualbox 2.2 - http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/2.2.4/virtualbox-2.2_2.2.4-47978_Ubuntu_jaunty_i386.deb
For any other distribution, check the virtualbox site.
    A Windows XP disk/iso - http://google.com/
    ----

    1. Install the Virtualbox DEB like any other deb file, and get it installed.
    2. Install Windows XP in Virtualbox, by, well, following the onscreen instructions.
    3. Now for the slightly harder bit. Open a terminal and type

    sudo gedit /etc/fstab
Handy linux tip, to paste into a terminal, press CTRL+SHIFT+V
    4. Then hopefully a text editor should appear. Get to the bottom of it, and add the following line:
    none /proc/bus/usb usbfs devgid=46,devmode=664 0 0
Then open a second terminal and type
    sudo mount -a
    5. Open virtualbox, and install your tools for motomodding, and also the Motorola drivers.
    6. Put your phone into Bootloader, connect it to the pc
    7. In virtualbox, click the USB icon:

And select the one that looks like your phone. It should be something like s blank neptune.

    Then, Enjoy!

Debian 5.0 version is available too..

    http://download.virtualbox.org/virtu...lenny_i386.deb

and this method should work on debian too because it's almost similar to Ubuntu.

AFAIK , ubuntu is based on debian so the way it handles USB has to be same...

anyways let me try it first... only after i download and install debian..

Thats a misunderstanding. Ubuntu is based on debians package management system, not its way of dealing with hardware. ANYWAY.. anyone tested this on either debian or ubuntu?

Yep, not many people use Linux.

Btw, I had trouble with my XP image. Sorry couldn't test it and now I just reformatted my PC to 7.

I can confirm you that with the latest VirtualBox (at present 3.0.4) everything works perfectly on slackware 12.2. I just flashed and rsa-removed my rizr z3
I think that when you give to VirtualBox the permission to use the usb device it gain exclusive access to that device. (Or, at least, the virtualbox help says so :P)

Yeah, Ubuntu has stringent USB controls, not sure why though
