    [Guide] To Configuring and Running Moto4lin

    Configure moto4lin

    Welcome to the second instalment of moto4lin usage. In this episode I will show you how to configure and use it to a basic level.

    NOTE: This guide has been taken from various websites and is not my own work. I do not take credit to any part except from bringing the pieces together.

    Firstly connect your p2k phone to you computer using the mini usb cable.
    Now run moto4lin using the following terminal command:

    Code:
    sudo moto4lin
    We have to run the program as root to access the p2k settings. This is programmed into the app and until someone finds a fix we are stuffed with this method.
    So go ahead enter your root password and moto4lin will open. In the bottom status bar of the moto4lin window it should say, at least the first time: '[info] Phone pluged as AT'

    Go To: Settings -> Preferences...
    In Set 'ACM Device' type '/dev/ttyACM0'

    Then we need to figure out the following,
    'AT Vendor ID',
    'AT Product ID',
    'P2K Vendor ID',
    'P2K Product ID'.

    Click the update list button to find a list of currently connected USB devices. Find your phone and write down all the items that go with it. As when you run moto4lin as normal user all the settings are gone.
    Select 'Switch to P2K' -> if it is successful, it should say '[info] Phone pluged as P2K' in the status bar of the main window.
    Clicking 'Update List' again will now retrieve the 'P2K Vendor ID' and 'P2K Product ID' of all your USB devices. Write your cell phone's P2K IDs down.

    Now quit and run moto4lin as a normal user.

    Code:
    moto4lin

    Go to Settings -> Preferences and fill in the AT IDs and the P2K IDs.

    Quit moto4lin, and the settings will be saved.
    So run under root for execution and run as normal user for configuration.

    Running Moto4lin

    First run it as root

    Code:
    sudo moto4lin
    Check the current mode:
    If its already in P2K mode, click 'Connect' to load up your Motorola file system

    If its in AT mode, Goto Settings -> Preferences...Select 'Switch to P2K' then try connecting.

    I have attached a screenshot of how it looks like at this stage. If anyone figures how to run moto4lin without root privileges and still be able to access in P2K, do share.

    Wurkz fur mee!
    You just have to figure out a device it installed uder...
    Switch your phone's USB configuration to "Data Connection", as opposed to "Memory Card"
    Open terminal window and run
    Code:
    cd /dev | ls -latr
    The last listing is your phone device.
    To make sure that the phone got installed run.
    Code:
    lsusb
    in terminal window. You better see "Motorola..." entry there.

    I am having problems with my Verizon Motorola L7c phone

    This is my device and settings :

    /dev/bus/usb/001/002
    AT Vendor ID: 22b8
    AT Product ID: 2a64
    P2K Vendor ID: 22b8
    P2K Product ID: 2a64

    I see a lot of people saying the device is '/dev/ttyACM0' , but that device doesn't show up on my computer....

    I configured Moto4Lin as sudo, than went back into moto4lin as a regular user and went to preferences (since it was in AT mode) and clicked Switch to P2K, and the dialog window says:

    [info] Switching device /dev/bus/usb/001/002 to P2K mode...
    [error] Unable to open device
    [error] Please check preferences

    Any help would be awesome!!! Thanks

    Help please

    Ok moto4lin is up and running, my phone is detected (L6 imode) but when I try to connect:
    [info] AT phone found
    [info] Switching device /dev/ttyACM0 to P2K mode...
    [info] AT E0 answer: OK
    [info] Phone answer: ERROR
    [error] Unable to connect

    I get the same message if I try set to p2k mode.... Can anyone help?

    i installed moto4lin using yum on fedora core 6 with no probs. i can connect to the phone and upload files but the program is missing the button for creating directories (and as such i cannot upload any skins).

    has anyone else had this problem? am i missing something?

    i hate asking such a simple question, but the main problem is that i don't have internet at home so any time i want to upgrade/experiment with sw on my box i either have to go through days/weeks of back-and-forth between work and home to satisfy all of the dependencies or wait until i can bring my box to place where i can jack in for a few hours.

    Hey,

    I have one problem with moto4lin when connection to my MotoV8,

    I have successfully established a p2k connection, but cannot identify phone, nor get a drive list.

    Code:
    Code:
    [device]
    cfgACMdevice=/dev/ttyACM0
    cfgATproduct=6422
    cfgATvendor=22b8
    cfgAutoConnect=1
    cfgDetachDriver=0
    cfgP2Kproduct=6424
    cfgP2Kvendor=22b8

    [filemanager]
    cfgAutoExpandDirTree=0
    cfgAutoUpdateFileList=1
    cfgGoLastFolder=0
    cfgLoadList=0
    AT, and p2k is not the same nbr. For some reason the V8 changes the product ID from AT mode to p2k mode.
    And, "/dev/ttyACM0" is in 'Modem' connection mode.

    This is as far as 'sudo moto4lin' gets for me:
    Code:

    Code:
    [info]
    Phone is unpluged. Please connect it
    [info] Phone pluged as AT
    Try to connect
    [info] AT phone found
    [info] Switching device /dev/ttyACM0 to P2K mode...
    [info] Phone answer: A
    [info] Phone pluged as P2K
    [info] Phone connected as P2K
    [info] Sending control message failed.. Retry...
    [error] Unable to get phone model
    [error] Unable to get drive name
    Getting file list
    [error] Unable to get drive list

    I know the connection must be working, but it seems as if
    'sudo moto4linux' is not enough. It still can't
    access the mobile.

    Any help much appreciated!

    this probably needs to be in another thread, but how would I go about modifying seem edit instructions written for Windows programs like P2K edit or are the differences so minor that I'm just confusing myself? also, is the v3m an all-right phone or should I fork over the money for the v8?

    As to whether the V3m is a good phone or not depends what you're expecting from it.

    As for the seem edits, read my seem editing guide for noobs. Link on my signature. I based it on the Windows P2k Tools VS version but the principles of seem editing are exactly the same as of Moto4Lin. I applied seem edits to my V3x through Moto4Lin and it's basically the same. The only slight difference is in the GUI (Graphical User Interface) of Moto4Lin.
