That's the problem right there. Stock recoveries expect a signature signed by a specific private key (only available to the manufacturer). The entire reason for custom recoveries is to allow us to flash with our own signature and flash whatever we want.

You either have to find a stock update.zip or flash back to stock (motorola users would use RSD Lite for example)

Would it be possible to extract a stock rom from a rooted device?

No. You literally have to find the OTA file. Google is your friend. What phone do you have?

Too new to have much info out there. Probably won't have any OTA, doesn't seem to be subsidized by any carrier. Moto might someday have a maintenance update.zip on their support site, if there are any major performance problems.

Phone is manufactured by Foxconn, if that's any help - http://cens.com/cens/html/en/news/news_inner_38690.html

What about RSD netconnect? Is that an extended version of RSD lite?

Same thing, but you have to log in to Moto's secure RSD server.

I tried MSU. But no update exists. Does MSU look at https://rsddownload.motorola.com/download as well? Or is there a chance that there is an SBF file on there that I only can download if I know the name, or when I will be able to login?

I'm sure it requires a legal agreement with Motorola to be able to log in. Check the phone's firmware version under 'about phone'. Then google for it.

tried that. No luck. Would all ROMS be in https://rsddownload.motorola.com/download or will only updates appear in there?

Hackers have been able to breach that site's security in the past, but I think Motorola has pretty well closed that door to unauthorized users. And yes, I'm sure all their firmware is behind that door, and probably several others.

daywalker helped me in getting the stock rom. Next question is: what can be safely removed from internal memory. The XT532 is advertised as 512Mb Rom and 512Mb RAM. But when I look at installed apps, it starts with 160Mb total size of which only 65Mb is available for installing programs. So 95Mb is precoccupied. How should I see this 160Mb in view of ROM or RAM? What can i throw away from internal memory to increase the free space. Of course I try to move apps as much as possible to SD but that is not always possible.

Honestly, I don't know. But the one recommendation I can give you is this. No matter what you do, make a backup first.

Ah, I forgot Daywalker wears golden boots, a flowing cape and a big "S" on his chest.

Since that phone is intended for the Asian market, you will probably not find much information for it yet on this side of the globe. You can try to root it with SuperOneClick ([APP]SuperOneClick v2.3.3 - Motorola Exploit Added! - xda-developers) - it works for the Milestone; perhaps the XT532 as well. That would give you more access to the files and delete whatever apk's you may not be able to delete otherwise. Of course it is easy to brick your phone this way, but at least you should (hopefully) be able to restore it with the stock rom, and start over.

    Also see - [Q] How to Root Moto XT316(base on 2.3.4) - Page 2 - xda-developers
