CLIQ kernel - tether support
Recompiled the CLIQ kernel to support the wifi tether app.
So here's where I'm at. The wifi tether app no longer complains that the kernel doesn't support iptables and netfilter. The app can't seem to start the wifi radio though. Wifi still works normally otherwise.
If anyone wants to play around with this: boot.engineeringw4r-r1.img engineeringw4r-r1.config
Will make an update.zip later.

I was talking to the dude about Wifi and he brought up that G1s, MyTouchs, etc all have a wlan.ko. However, the cliq does not have this as wifi must be built into the kernel. Thats probably why the app can't start it.

oo this might be good. i guess the question is if wifi is built into the kernel is there going to be a way to get the app to even work based on that or will a tether app have to be created just for the cliq?
seems like the cliq firmware has files placed differently even some of the themes the notifications colors cant be changed becasue the files dont exist in the same places..but as always a step towards progress for sure.Motorola Cliq

I think this can work with modification to the wifi tether app. I've created a bug report on the google code page.
I also added the kernel config file to the first post.

From my experience compiling linux kernels you can set the config file options to "=y", "=m", "=n". So maybe setting the wifi to =m from =y would create the corresponding wireless driver?
You see, madness, as you know, is like gravity. All it takes is a little push.

I am also curious about the status of this.....I am no developer but I may be interested in taking a stab at this, as I love the wifi tether program, and loved the abilities I got when I had it on my rooted G1....

Why not go at it from a different approach.
You don't need a kernel level tie in.
Something like http://graha.ms/androidproxy/ would work great.
Let the current kernel tie ins do their job and strap on to them.

I definitely understand that.
I have wifi and wired tether on my Mytouch.
I honestly don't use Wifi unless I have more then one computer. If I use wifi tether the battery is blasted in under and hour and the phone gets rediculously hot.
I prefer wired using a short 10" usb cable.

yeah I know what you are saying about the battery, I usually keep it plugged into the computer when using the WiFi...At least with my Rooted G1. I used the WiFi tether for multiple computers at my business at the local flea market so Yeah I like the WiFi...also PDAnet tends to lose connection every so often, and usually in the middle of a transaction..
