KB7SQI's Cliq Mod - V1.0.5.3 - 02/06/10
Hi all,
First post, but I've been following the forums for a while keeping an eye on all the development for Cliq/DEXT. If you're an XDA fan, you might recognize me from there. I have a couple of roms over there based on the Rogers Dream ROM & a HTC Magic build that includes Flash/Arabic support. I picked up a Cliq on Friday. So far I have to say I really love it for the extra ram/app space.
I wiped my HTC dev setup this weekend & setup stuff for the Cliq. I have to give a HUGE thanks to all that put effort into rooting the CLIQ! It took me all of 10 min to root mine & I started messing w/ the rom right away after making a full backup first. I've built a BETA rom currently being tested my nEx.Software & TheDudesAndroid. Here's a list of features:
Custom 2.6.27.45 Kernel based off my Rogers/Magic kernel w/ support for swap_free notify, tun, ipsec, ipfilter, netfilter, ipv6, fuse, cifs, cramfs, squashfs-4.0, ext2/3, cpu scaling, swap, & compcache-0.5.4 modules.
The build is based off the T-Mobile 1.1.31 release w/ the following changes:
Minor UI edits to Gmail.apk, VoiceSearch.apk, and to the framwork-res.apk. I swapped out the Notifcation Bar, added a clear status background & swapped out the emo-icons for gtalk.
Added updated Superuser.apk, SpareParts.apk, Google Maps 3.1.2, android-log collector.apk, Motorola's Personal Phone Portal, Term.apk, HTC_IME.apk, etc.
I've now included a modified version of the Wifi-Tether apk, from the DemoShadow.com Development Team - Thanks guys, my offer is still open for what changes I made!
I removed Telenav, Shazam, & MySpaceClient
Most stuff was added to /system/bin & a major update to /system/xbin. I've included terminfo support, busybox-1.15.3, telnetd, lucid, zipalign, the dropbear sshd server, e2fsck, fixperm script, iptables, mke2fs, rwsystem, rosystem, scp, tune2fs, htop, parted, etc. busybox links are properly set on flash into /system/xbin
much more upto date apn list and I've added auto zipalign of all apk's on install from cyanogen's build.
I've included the dropbear, rsync, modifications from my V1.3.8 build. The first time you boot this build, it'll create a password for root & add it to your /system/build.prop. Simply run a 'cat /system/build.prop | grep SSH' and it'll show you the password. The dropbear sshd runs on port 2222. If you don't care for this feature, simply run the /system/bin/removedropbear.sh script. It'll remove it.
Finally the all the apk's in the build were ran through zipalign as well.
My main reason for this build is I wanted a full/yet stable release for daily usage for myself. I hope it proves useful to others as well. Even though the ROM supports swap, compache, etc, it's not enabled by default. If you would like to enable them, you're free to enable them. I've tested both linux swap/compaches w/ swap sized upto 128 megs & the system still ran fine.
You shouldn't need to wipe prior to flashing it unless you're running Barak's non-odex'ed build, or you've been using MetaMorph, been flashing builds/themes like crazy, then I'd suggest doing a wipe/clean install. I'm not responsible what happens between your hands/cliq.
Looking forward to hearing responses. One last thing, if you want to donate, don't ask me for a donation link. I do this for fun when I have time, but persiansown needs a cliq for continuation of the HERO build and Barak does alot of awesome stuff for all Android. Thanks again.
V1.0.5.3 is based off the new 2.6.27.45 source code. I'd appreciate that you'd test it w/ out any themes to give solid feedback on the new kernel. I've used the same boot-img ramdisk as V1.0.4 because of an issue I need to track down w/ using motorola's stock init. I'll probably need to re-compile it. Besides a couple minor things, I don't plan on changing the kernel much more after getting some feedback. I've also re-added the AmazonMP3 apk and NetworkAddressBook.apk which is the T-Mobile Mobile Backup @ the request of others. If you don't want to use these, just like the LatinIME. After flashing the rom, before you reboot, do an adb remount, adb shell, & remove the files you don't want to have in the build. Thanks again & take care.
Because I made promise to those that wanted apps2sd, here you go. I've made updates for BOTH V1.0.4 & V1.0.5 that provides apps2sd, enables compcache, tweaks the CPU settings, and as promised will RUN a /sdcard/userinit.sh script if you have it placed there. Now, there's a difference between a normal a2sd script & the version I provide. dalvik-cache & /data/data stay internal! The ONLY thing that gets pushed to the sd is APPS! To use this, you have to have your card partitioned. Don't bother asking me how to do it. Do some research over @ xda. There's plenty of threads for it. The ONLY people who should flash this is those that want to move their apps to the SD card. If you don't understand it, don't flash the update. It's also only an update, not a complete rom. It has to be flashed AFTER you flash the rom before you reboot. Above all, DON'T MIX & MATCH THEM. Flash the V1.0.4 a2sd update w/ the V1.0.4 rom, etc. You've been warned.
Here's the ROM link for V1.0.4 & it's update. This is for people that prefer to use the older 2.6.27 kernel build & not the new one:

So far, it has been great for me. I've not done much more than use it for the normal day to day stuff but it has been stable and fast for me.

Hi dreday2011,
Just how many apps do you have waiting to install on your cliq?
Besides the extra ram, that was the main reason I bought a cliq. I have over 90 apps installed & still have plenty of space free. I didn't add a2sd support in the build. Tell ya what though, after everyone hammers away on the beta release, I'll make an extra "addon" update for a2sd support. It's not hard to add, sound fair enough?

Silly question maybe, but is this installed using MetaMorph? Or is it done in a similar fasion as the original rooting procedures? Thanks.
