Kernel Source 2.6.27.43 for Cliq/Dext Uploaded
Hi all,
I've uploaded my updated Kernel Source for the Cliq/Dext that has been patched to 2.6.27.43 along w/ the compcache-0.5.4 swap notifier patch, reiserfs4 patch, and unionfs-2.5.3 patch as well. I'm currently running it on my cliq & haven't found any problems w/ it yet. This is mainly for other devs to beat on until we can get drivers ported to 2.6.29. Enjoy!
The original 2.6.27.43 has been removed and the new 2.6.27.45 has been uploaded. This also includes the backport of squashfs-4.0 support as well. Enjoy!

This is just an much more upto date version of the kernel source. By itself, it's not much use. You use this to compile a new kernel for the cliq/dext. It's based off the original Motorola source, but has been patched upto the 2.6.27.43 kernel release plus extra patches that are normally included for our "android" phones.
Just FYI, I've added squashfs-4.0 also to my personal build & compiling a new kernel as I type this. Once I test the kernel, I'll re-upload the updated source again. I'll post a smaller update so people don't have to re-download the entire source all over again. Take care.
Steve.

what if i am running on baraks ROM? can i just flash this .zip or do i have to wipe and all that good stuff?
Just asking, and if i do install this, is there any noticeable changes to the average user?

Does this move us closer to a 1.6 ROM or better?

This isn't a ROM update. It's the source code to build the kernel. I've let barak, deezy, & kmobs know I've updated the source. barak plans on taking a look @ it later when he's off work. I'm re-compiling another kernel now. I'll have a update to my rom l8r this evening based off this new kernel. Again, this is mainly for people working on builds. Take care.

It's a kernel update. It brings updated drivers, bug fixes, etc.Last edited by kb7sqi; 01-18-2010 at 03:08 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

More detail on drivers and updates... exactly what? because it seems people are just modifying 1.5... and releasing it, there really isn't anything special about any of these so far, thedude rooted it and thats about as good as it gets so far people... tethering isn't done, and some other things. Sooooo stop releasing waste of time Roms that aren't really anything but removed apps and added apps.... or modifications of the theme... I haven't seen anyone remove blur yet, I've tried it just crashes... People keep saying things and I haven't see action...

WOW who are you? If you understand half of the things that were going on behind the scenes or all of the communication that we are having with one another to figure out these issues you wouldn't be saying this.
Motorola locked down their libs to not allow anything to be ported to the cliq. eugene has cracked part of the code, but we still have a little way to go.
there have been countless hours put into the working on the CLIQ.
I'm sorry but people like you who are so unappreciative really piss me off.

Ok...I'll make this simple. The Android 1.5 Stock kernel is 2.6.27 which was released what, at the end 2008? 2.6.27.43 was released this month. It's a MUCH newer version of the 2.6.27.x kernel. Android 1.6 (Donut) uses a 2.6.29 kernel which is a HUGE difference compared 2.6.27.x We don't have the MOTOROLA source for Donut since they've never released. You can't release what you don't have. If you have the time to reverse-engineer the drivers, go for it. So, in the mean time we can try to improve the kernel which we use on our 1.5 builds. Again, this isn't a rehash, it's not a ROM, it's called source code. If you don't want use it/don't know how to, please stop filling this thread up with worthless comments. These so called "rehashes" of roms you call them aren't. The problem w/ tethering, etc isn't a problem w/ the ROMS, it's the application. IE WIFI-Tether, Wired-Tether. They have to be updated to work / the cliq. But if your kernel don't support it, guess what, it won't work either. Clear enough? Sorry for the rant. Take care.
