This has been covered over at Simply Android loads and according to HandlerExploit it's not possible to overclock the cpu even with the kernel source code.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead...Someone on the Backflip Development Thread has his BackFlip OC'd to 600mghz. He said that he couldn't compile anything higher than that because it would not boot. Just wondering if we can get ours up to 600mghz and see how things go.

Thats great! But the cliq has serious over heating issues, over clocking is not very advisable. :/

Agreed....Mine gets pretty damn hot already when using it for extended periods and while charging. I don't think overclocking it to much would be a good idea. Basic electronics tells us that heat is the enemy, plus it fries the battery and sim. Maybe a slight oc would be ok, but anything to drastic would just fry the phone.

Really? Mine doesn't get very hot. My G1 was way hotter.

It gets warm if it's pegged out at like 100% doing blur synching, but it's not bad. The G1 used to burn my leg a little if it heated up in my pocket and actually ended up swelling the battery on me.

It's pretty hard to mess up on Android. Install an OC capable kernel or a rom with one (my G1 was on Cyanogen) and set it with SetCPU. Just don't tick off "Set on boot" until you're sure it's stable.

Sounds great, but from what I hear, nothing like that is available for the cliq yet. I am only able to set the pcu to 528 min/max for screen on, then I set it real low when the screens off to save me some battery. But it would be cool if we could oc it a little bit and see how fast this thing could fly without burnin itself up lol.

Hello guys,
look at our thread:
http://modmymobile.com/forums/557-mo...0mhz-beta.html
constantly update with new freq reached
Now I'm running backflip at 691 mhz rock solid, I reached 748 mhz and experienced some reboots, but i messed up my installed rom so I don't know what the maximum stable freq is
I think you can do the same thing we did: open acpuclock.c and modify it like beach head have done. If u have the SAME acpuclock.c of backflip, u can just copy-paste it
else u have to include modifications he did on your file. Then compile kernel, take zImage and pack it with ramdisk taken from your rom. Search for pack unpack android kernel script , or search over our backflip thread "overclocking". When u have created right boot.img file (and dhd.ko for wifi) u can use it following the instructions.
I do not have heating problem with my backflip, even if I put 691 mhz ALWAYS ON (max=691, min=691 on setCPU). U can image lower heat if u put min freq much lower then max freq.
