I used overclock widget, I found it had a setting to use different frequancies then the defaults. I looked into it but it won't overclock.
Why do you need to clock it over 528? That's speedy fast for a phone that isn't expected to have super fast speeds.

Even if you could, you run the risk of frying your processor big time.

Yoy can't just use the overclock widget to try to overclock. You need to root the device then flash a custom rom or kernel that allows it to be overclocked. And the possibility of "frying" your processor is minimal if u don't overclock more than necessary. I had a moto droid running at 1ghz for the longest time and it never over-heated or "crashed." I also had an eris running 182mhz faster than stock with no issues. It really depends on which rom/build you use, or kernel, and setting the proper profiles in setcpu(which is a paid app but well worth the $1.99). If you need more help or info there are great tutorials and how to's on this site, xda, ppc, and many others. Just do some research and it'll pay off.

I kept trying to compile a kernel with overclock support from over at XDA forums, that problem was the acpuclock.c was different then the source of the cliq, and i couldn't get it to work right, it might have been for 2.1 or something, i'll have more of a look when the source for 2.1 comes out, but it is possible since its a Qualcomm MSM7200A where as the G1 is a Qualcomm® MSM7201A which could also be where the problem is, just something needs modified to support the 7200 versus the 7201

I think going up to 650MHz should be good.
It would speed up alot of things and make it a much smoother, better user experience but still go easy on the battery.
I remember a Samsung QWERTY Android phone which had a similar processor (ARM11 not a CortexA8) but came with 800MHz, so its definitely do-able, relatively safe and low risk of overheating but its the whole battery management that's the issue.
As stated, the custom kernel is the main issue.

Android is all about choices... getting your phone to run as fast as you want is part of what android is all about... I hope you guys get something going so we can all have a choice

You are correct in a way, Android is all about choice. On the other hand Motorola isn't about choice. I have done a lot of research and some android based phones just cant be overclocked. If you manage to get your phone OCed you could brick your phone.
If i remember correctly this has something to do with high and low frequency's of the processors. maybe one of the Devs could shed a little more light on Overclocking.Rooted Motorola Droid X2

You can find the information here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=679033
850 is not possible, as anything over 768 locks the phone, but I stand corrected Koush has figured out a way to run the MSM over 576, perhaps we can get him to help us with a OC kernel on the cliq once we get 2.1 source.Last edited by toxigenicpoem; 08-06-2010 at 11:44 AM.
