    Question True OverClocking to 800MHz+!!!

    I FOUND THIS http://alldroid.org/viewtopic.php?f=210&t=1170

I know the guide says overclock to 600MHz but i know its possible to overclock to even 1GHz because i have tried it.

THe reasong why Droid can overclock and the cliq cant has to do on the kernel. A good suggestion for those Devs working on Roms would be to edit the Kernel, letting us TRULLY overclock the Cliq....

And for those People who are thinkin "why would you want to fry your cliq?" I have insurance on My phone it doesnt really matter...

The processor in the Droid is a 600mhz processor...

And your dealing with more than just a simple processor jump...the transfer of data from the rom, and ram, could just bottleneck a massive speed increase in the processor...

    Just food for thought...

The new version of SetCpu allows for different clock settings to be applied once the Cpu reaches a certain temperature... so if you run the phone at 800 MHz for short amounts of time then you shouldn't see any melted plastic

Seriously to those who think you can actually melt a phone have no respect for chip manufacturers. It is pretty much impossible to do that because all chips have a temp shut off switch, at least almost all do. Also you could just overload the circuit and end up in a infinite boot cycle. Not much else would happen and if you boot into recovery it would be fixed so i don't see why not try.

Overclocking cell phone processors in general is not a wise idea.

LOL. You probably don't do much overclocking.

When you reach a certain overclock the internal chip protection can fail to engage.

I've seen many new processors killed during overclock still.

So it is quite possible to kill a processors.

Oh, another thing. I don't know about you, but my cliq getz to over 100 degrees on the back cover. An overclock would increase this temperature. This would both cause discomfort an early battery failure, and possible explosion.

I think we should talk to Moto about the heating up. It's a potential Fire/safety hazard. Mine does the same thing, and I know people on their forums do the same thing too.

Don't forget there is no fan on the processor. If you overclock your desktop processor, it will make the fan to rotate faster to prevent it from overheating.

I'm gonna play the devils advocate here...

Why are people so against over-clocking our processors when Eugene just OC'd the MT3g and G1 processors to 700+ mhz? Aren't they the same processors?

I think the only difference in the CLIQ's is the FMRadio(is that part of the processor? :\). He has posted the source for OC kernel for G1,MT3G,maybe someone can port the OC part(I only port apps, fyi, not system code :P )?

The FMRadio is in the radio chip not the processor.
I know the kernel is different for the Cliq, not sure how different but in theory someone could port it over. Unfourtunatly I know about as much about code as I know about deep sea diving.

    eugene373:
I'm Guessing those Settings Could be applied to all Phone's for OC the Kernel <-- this JUST came from his twitter. He knows we're talking about his code!

I think he was talking about over clocking his Magic.
He doesn't even have a Cliq anymore, does he?
