Why so much roms ?!

IMHO, it would be much nicer to:
1- have a basic rooted rom with nothing special
2- and be able to customize the rooted phone with ipkg, and quilt patching

Take a look at what did some webOS guys :

Let's stop making tons of ROMS and find a new way to customize our android phones !

What we need is one or maybe two roms (stock kernel, and improved kernel) with basic "su" support.
Then on that we could build a framework which would allow anybody to customize its dext: i.e. I want tether or not, I want openvpn or not, I want the latest browser or latest google maps, etc.
Only things that can be done as root. That's what preware is about.

So get a pre then. Or come up with your own stripped down rom. I support all the hard work our devs are doing. I'm ready to get into the game myself.

well not everyone will enjoy the same rom some ppl like different flavors
so the more roms the merrier
plus this a cliq/android forum NOT webos pre forum
should be thanking the devs not talking crap that theres to many roms

First off..why is someone posting questions about the moto razr in the cliq forum...you speak well enough to elaborate specific details of your problem...so you understand that this is a Cliq forum...what is this like the seventh or eighth time this week this has happened.

Second...I love how some 2 day old member suddenly knows what is best for the entire community of devs and users who have been modding since the day the Cliq came out...many of us dealt with the frustration of waiting for an exploit to be found, and when root finally did come about (thax to all of the amazing devs out there) we rejoiced (at least I did). Now we have someone who hasn't contributed an hour of his time to this project demanding that all of the roms be abolished in favor of some webOS style travesty that he thinks is best. WTF over?

Third...If you think you know what's best...this is Android...put it out to the community...and let them decide if it's worth a damn...but until that time...by all means feel free to contribute and bring new ideas to the table but for the love of God in heaven please don't bite the devs that feed us.

I'll get off my rant box now...if a mod doesn't like this post or feels that the content is inappropriate I apologize...and delete it if you feel it is necessary.

Sorry if you misunderstood me, but this was just an idea, based on my 20 years experience of modding various Linux based devices.

There are lots of roms for android devices, and that's good! That's why I bought a Dext instead of a Palm. But, If we join our forces behind a flexible modding framework, we could avoid reinventing the wheel every day, and could have better/more stable/more tested roms. My 2 cents...
