Question Question to TheDudesAndroid (or any pro modder)

    Hi !
I'm currently comparing the stock 1.1.36 FR rom and your rooted v0.4.1 rom and wish to ask you a few questions...
1- boot.img differs from the original. Is it just a repackaging or a new kernel/initrd is crucial ?
2- recovery.img has been removed. If it s present in the update, the amon ra recovery will be overwritten ?
3- you removed radio.img. Is it just to make the upgrade safer or you think that there are no benefits to upgrade the radio ?

    Many thanks for your time.

    Ludo.

So if I keep the original boot.img, rooting will not work ? Strange... I thought rooting only relies on the su binary set up suid root ?

As far as I know, there were some little modifications in the kernel, if you look on the wiki it will tell you how to unpack / repack boot.img (I think the init.rc is the modded file; use Cygwin or Linux distro for the two perl scripts to work).

If you keep the original boot.img, rooting will work, but there might be some problems with some apps.

Shortly said, if you do not upgrade the bootloader, you can root it as you wish.

the boot.img allows you to have remote root. you can mount the system as r/w with adb. the su binary and superuser.apk give you local root. this allows you to run rooted apps from the phone or flash images with the terminal emulator.
