Editing .apk's
i have searched this on google and there is a few things on this, but i figured id post under development and maybe hope someone sees this who has actually done this or at least ATTEMPTED it.
is there any way to extract .apk and make minor changes to it. For example, i have the app "BlueRSS" which is obviously an rss feeder, and id like to change the color of the widget. no big deal, but it seems like this concept in general is pretty cool and would be fun to tinker with. is this possible? if so is it dangerous?Motorola Cliq: **ROOTED for her pleasure**, ROM: PureHandler 0.0, Recovery: My "AndroidBlast" mod, Theme: "ZeroCliq" - my edit

what i do is when i make a rom i open the apk and since im on ubuntu it opens it in a type of like achriver and you can extract the files to your desktop edit them and just replace them in the rom
what i would do i just use the apk its self and place it in an update folder and sign it and attempt to see if itll work
if you know how to sign roms and open up apks its pretty simple
hope this helps!

What you can do is:
1. Put the app in your sdk/tools
2. Open the app with winrar and delete META-INF folder.
3. Then browse to /res/drawable.
4. Replace whatever the icon is with the new icon, with the same name.
5. Resign and re-install the app.
5a. Extract signing.zip to sdk/tools folder, make sure modified apk is in that folder as well.
5b. Make sure the modified apk is the only apk under sdk/tools folder
5c. Run autosign.bat
5d. Re-install app.

so i played around with everything last night and it seems to be a lot more straight foward than i expected. however, ive come to the painful realization that i do not have good image-editing software, so im gonna have to look into that so i can start taking advantage of this. i suppose i could start tinkering with some ROMs though. thanks for all of your help, i learn something new everyday from this forum!!

I also recommend GIMP. It's free and it's good. Almost as good as Photoshop.
