Cause of Data Problems on ANdroid 2.1 solved!

I believe the people having problems with data on 2.1 are using unlocked branded phones on a different network to the original branding, not radio nor different SIM card types. My own experiment:

Well, I could not get date using the 5012 radio and adlx patch on e2c

I have upgraded to the 5030 radio and purehandler, and if I try e2c after wiping I still can't get data. I have also tried removing the battery before and after installing. I had three different type of SIM cards and none of them helped. The APN field is blank.

Interestingly, when I wiped e2c and did a nandroid restore to purehandler it refused to work on 3G - I had to turn off, remove the battery and start it up again to get it to work.

There may only be a couple of brands but are the phones that can't get data on e2c unlocked and being used on another network than their original branding??

I just found an old Orange SIM (phone originally orange uk with 5012 and 1.1.4 build but now Cliq US spec 5030 and 1.4.8) and did another wipe and e2c install with the Orange SIM installed and the Orange APN's were there rather than a blank page. I added the 3 settings and they saved. Still could not get data on Orange as they do not have coverage where I am but it does prove my theory. CHanged SIMS and same problem as before, blank APN page and no data. The SIMS used from the different providers are of the same physical type, BTW.

    CONCLUSION

ANDROID 2.1 checks for the original branding and even if the phone is unlocked it will not load a different providers APNs, hence no data. Nothing to do with the radio or SIM card type. My phone has been wiped many times and gone thru loads of ROMs with no apparent Orange (the original branding) stuff left but it must be there somewhere and 2.1 has an additional check (the people who wrote it should be shot).

Possibly need to update firmware associated with reading the SIM card or take out the check in 2.1 - don't know, I am only a newbie.

People with data problems on 2.1 pls comment if you are using an unlocked phone on a network different to the original branding. See if I am right or not.

The unique carrier offering Motorola Dext/Cliq in Spain is Movistar. Mine is from Movistar, unlocked and using it with Vodafone. Never had any problem with data. Tried a lot of roms, 1.5 and 2.1. I got data working with all of them. Well, not with Slide2CLIQ ;-)
Phone: Dext (rooted) Operator: Vodafone Espaņa
    ROM: CM4Morrison (custom kernel 2.6.29-6)
    Recovery: ClockWorkMod
    Theme: Launcher Pro.

Enough with the data loss with Eclair2Cliq. We all want it but we all cant have it at the moment. If you ever used the E2C then you know that you cant upload contacts from your SIM card. Thats because the ROM will not allow us to access the SIM card completely and thats why we cannot access the data. The fortunate ones that have working data on E2C have the older R20 SIM cards. Have patience and it will eventually work when a beta or even a full build is released.

I use a Movistar branded DEXT, unlocked by IMEI and using it with Simyo. Data only works with 1.5 roms for me.

I have a T-Mobile USA branded Cliq and e2c doesn't work on T-Mobile USA at all, now. I had an older sim card that I used for years that finally burnt out on me. T-Mobile replaced it with a newer sim card and that is where my e2c data stopped working. Let's just leave it be and wait til the 2.1 update. Patience is a virtue and continuing to beat a dead horse like this topic isn't going to do any good. Sorry to be blunt but it has been explained and we were told to wait and our patience shall be rewarded. Cheers.

Also, even if you were right. You didn't SOLVE the issue, as the misleading title stated, you just figured out the issue, which most of us knew already

It hasn't been solved... Someone just posted something that we developers havn't chatted about on M3 directly. Adlx discovered issues long ago, and its related to the radio hack. In short there isn't a fix until offical 2.1

And with that i will close this thread to avoid further confusion. No permanent data fix until official Motorola 2.1 Blur is released. If anyone has any objections feel free to PM me or any other staff member.
You see, madness, as you know, is like gravity. All it takes is a little push.
