No no, I was referring to what adlx had said about the AOSP source documentation about pairing kernel with rom, and about a past forum post regarding this information.

What do u mean by pairing. I understood u wanted to pack a boot.img file,. Sorry if it was not what you were talking about.

What do YOU mean by pairing? From what I understand so far, you consolidate the boot.img-kernel+boot.img-ramdisk into boot.img, which is part of the android rom as a whole (along with system.img, etc).

Say I 'make' in ubuntu, using the AOSP source git repository, specifically what files should I focus on editing in order to get a fully working rom thats working with the kernel?

You see, the whole process is a bit hazy as all the guides in this forum only explains a part of the whole process of making a rom for the cliq.

    thanks

not slamming, but google it thats how i learned alot.

for building in linux, i posted a guide (Compiling for Linux)
but i do not plan on posting anything too soon, for fear it might get taken down, or i might get banned

check out my signature --consider those links, help. (cough* number2)

OH AND P.S. @thrice, no devs i know of take in adsence revenue. maybe cyanogen but i dont remember any ads (that i remember) on his website. Adsense is for individual applications, and websites, software, etc. NOT ROMS, there is no place within code, to place a graphical ad (duh).

Donations are they're only compensation, and from what ive seen with other devs, dont call it compensation, call it a meal at mcdonalds.

P.S. Compile the ROM, than pop in a kb7sqi kernel? lol duh

Hah I don't really care if I get banned. I've googled everything so far and like I've said before, it's a small community. And due to that fact, there really aren't that many resources on the "entire process of creating a rom for the cliq." You get what I'm saying? So don't state the obvious to me like I'm braindead or something. Please.

I just want more complete information, not just for me (as I'm not planning to keep the Cliq for more that much longer) but for OTHER PEOPLE WHO VIEW THIS FORUM too! It'll most definitely speed up development on this device if more people learn how to make a basic rom. Don't you think?

I mean honestly, it feels like everybody has this unstoppable need to be right/correct over petty stuff. Listen, I don't care to go out of my way to win an argument, especially on an online forum where people can trash-talk all day long knowing that they'll never be face-to-face with the other. It's childish and slows down the main goal of this forum.

I really hope that the next comment is something more insightful, instead of "google it" or "it's already been mentioned". Is it really that hard to post the link? It's not like I haven't searched. And half the time, search doesn't even work on these forums.

    ps @opencliq
I'm trying to look at your sig, but my eyes keep steering towards your avatar... I'd rather be itty bitty than fake

I am not a rom dev, so I do not know enough to write these guides, and I also do not know where to look.

I agree with everything you have said (when it comes to content.) I do agree that we need need more complete guides here at M3. I do agree that we need the full process documented. I agree with more or less all of what you posted. I can't make everything happen, but I will try to get this addressed with the people who actually know how this stuff works.

I do have a request for you. M3 is a community built on kindness. We're not XDA, or any other site. We're different, and that's what we want. So please try to post in a more polite manner. Yes, we could ban and infract and all of that crap, but that would waste your time and it would waste ours. And as I said, we're built on kindness and punish only if it's absolutely necessary.

Please don't take this personally. As I said, I really do agree with most of what you have posted.

_.__.__._I have retired. If you PM me, I may not reply.

Thank you for understanding. "Education/Knowledge fosters growth" is what I've been told by my professor. It's the reason why the xda community grows so fast; when a update that blocks root access is released OTA for a particular device supported by xda, it is bypassed within days. Goals are met quickly on their forums. I know that M3 is not XDA, but M3 can still take the good aspects of the community and still be unique in it's own way.

In my opinion, if this forum were to have a sufficient amount of guides on Rom development specifically for the Cliq, it'll probably make the task of porting/creating various roms easier on the devs and the users; as other users can actually share new findings, better ways of solving problems, and etc.

As for sounding impolite and rash, it must be my lack of "expressions". I usually don't use "lol" or any emoticons (even in IM's). It fosters bad grammar and bad habits in Reading/Writing in formal situations... lol.

Sorry to drift off topic, but I wanted to set this straight once and for all.

Alright look, im sorry for being a dick.

To answer your question, when you build from source you get a basic build. From there, you can create a kernel to go with it.

If you wanted to use a kb7sqi kernel instead, then do this:

    in your source folder:

    /out/target/product/[productname]/

you see all the files from the compilation.

Within there you see "system", and "data".
Compress those two folders to a .zip, and from there, add the kb7sqi kernel to the .zip file

NOW, you need to create the signature files.
[DEPENDING ON WHAT AUTOSIGNER YOU USE:]
Some autosigners will create the "META-INF" folder for you, some dont. sign your ROM (dont flash just yet), if you DO see a "META-INF" folder, go to step "A" below. If you do NOT, go to step "B".

    STEP A:
Extract ONLY that "meta-inf" folder from your zip, AND DELETE IT FROM THE ZIP FILE!
from there create a folder called "com", withiin "com" create a folder called "google", within "google" create a folder called "android".
Create your update-binary and update-script and put them in there.
From there, place your modified "meta-inf" folder into the zip.
    RESIGN AND FLASH!

STEP B: Create a folder called "META-INF" then go to STEP A!

    P.S.
I may be wrong with some small stuff, if i am, please correct me.
    P.S.S.
MY FAKE DEVELOPER TITLE IS AMAZING BRO! EVEN A COUPLE OF DEV'S ARE JEALOUS! XD hahahaha
    P.S.S.S.
i posted the directions for the files within the source, based on my view from my froyo (for cliq) source im looking at right now. so if im wrong, it MAY be because of different aosp's.

Well said, the more people to learn and share the faster things will get done. No one is "stealing" others work and calling their own. Owning or taking credit for something would be to teach and share for the greater good. The dev section should be filled with "look what I found out how to fix, get it into a ROM quick"
