    usage flash_image partition file.img

Hi... A bit of a novice when it comes to rooting, but after the recent non 2.1 update for the Dext and one hell of a lot of reading & research, I thought I'd take the plunge...

I've been following the step by step guide on theunlockr.com website and all has been going pretty smoothly. Unfortunately when I try to flash the recovery image I keep getting "usage flash_image partition file.img"

I followed the adb set-up instructions to the letter, until my pc detected the mobile's serial number. Apparently if it does, you're all set... Without the recovery image (which I've placed in the sd card root) I can't instal a new Rom.

    Any help?????

I tell everybody, download Droid Explorer and use the "Flash Custom Recovery" button. Let me know how it goes.
Try Google search. You'd be surprised how many answers are floating around on the internet.

    Recovery:
    j_r0dd-mb200-v1.7.6
    ROM:

Thanks for that... I've downloaded it & it does detect my phone ok & all of the sub folders on the phone... When I select the 'Flash Custom Recovery' button it doesn't seem to find a single file inside my sd card??? There's loads of stuff on it, but Droid Explorer isn't picking any of it up???

Ok scrub that last message, I still had the USB switched on!!!

It worked a treat and you're a star

    Thanks so much

Good tip for typing newbs! I might tip this way in my future posts also, given I tend to use droid explorer for lots of things now anyway, and it might open up new worlds for others also (e.g. surfing up/down thru the data directories and opening the .db files with a decent version of sqllite on the PC that will let you see the stored data info... useful when porting phone from t-mobile to another carrier that has different settings!) Of course I have root explorer and sqllite editor on the phone, but can be a bit tedious when exit out of sqllite editor and find the phone goes back to root folder rather than where you last were sometimes (just like reading emails, if you click on a weblink in an email, and close the webpage, teh phone puts you back about 10messages or so compared to where you were up too....grrr, my biggest bug-bear with this phone right now, and battery life of course).
You can take screen captures of the phone with droid explorer also, and it includes a stripped sdk with it, so is a bit of an "all in one" download for people scared of the command prompt on their PC ;-).
    Regards

    Hello.
Im new in this page. Ive been reading lots about this issue since i cant seem to upload my HTC HERO 2.1.
When im on the terminal i keep getting the same message as Steve "usage flash_image partition file.img"
Then, i downloaded (with a bit of trouble cos it wasnt on the android market) the Droid Explorer you recommended.
Once there i can not find the "Flash Custom Recovery" option.
Any other thing i should consider?
I also tried with Droid x bootstrap and Flashrec.apk with no results. Could it be my phone?
    Software info: 2.1 update 1
    Baseband version: 63.18.55.06PU_6.35.15.14
    Kernel: 2.6.29-920f7fec
    htc-kernel@and18-2#1
    Software number: 3.41.61.4
    thanx very much!
