Hi all,
My gingerbread AOSP build for the CLIQ/DEXT is nearing completion.
Although I'm still working on it, I've been using it as my daily ROM for a while now, and I know there are many who are eager to get a gingerbread rom so I'm not going to make you wait any longer while I 'polish' it.
That said:
1) Usual disclaimer: I'm not responsible for anything bad that happens, if you're at all concerned then DON'T FLASH IT
2) Additional disclaimer: This is a preview, I'm letting you try it before it's finished for those of you that don't want to wait.
3) Please, no complaints about things that don't work: I'm probably already working on them... this is a preview!
4) I think it runs quite nicely thank you
Details
This is a pure AOSP Gingerbread rom, built from source. Android version 2.3.3. The only manufacturer files are those required to make the hardware work.
This isn't a 'deblurred' rom, or a port of cyanogen. It's mine.
Important
This release does not contain the google apps. However, they can easily be installed on top of this rom using the gingerbread versions from the cyanogen wiki (see link below).
Installation
1) Flash the update using recovery
2) Wipe
3) Boot into gingerbread (first time will be slow as it generates the cache etc).
4) If you have wifi, I suggest you configure it and enable it now...
5) Reboot and flash the google apps using recovery
6)
Do not wipe
7) Boot into gingerbread, but wait until you get the data (or wifi) icon before trying to register your google account.
Tips
The latest version of google apps doesn't include gmail, google maps etc, but they can be downloaded from the market (nice shiny new versions).
Be patient until everything is set up.
What works - Data
- Calls
- Wifi
- Gps (not totally reliably yet... work in progress)
- Network Location
- Camera (stills only, currently one picture at a time, artifacts on preview... work in progress)
- Compass
- Accelerometer
- Native "Move to SD Card" support
What doesn't - USB Storage (next on my list, I need to port the old implementation from FroYo... this isn't CM you know!)
- Bluetooth
- Proximity Sensor
Notes
Once the google apps are installed, you'll notice the data icon turn green when data is working properly. There are times when I've lost data connectivity and it's turned grey, then it has remained grey even when the 3G symbol returns and I don't seem to be able to use data. In this case, you can try going to the Mobile Network Settings, and turning data off and on; seemed to work for me on the rare occasion it happened. Just keep an eye out for this problem, I don't know how common it is).
Download
That said, you can download it
here.
Download the google apps
here (bottom of the page, the version for CyanogenMod 7).
The next release will be Beta 1, watch this space...
Have fun,
Br3ttu.
As said before: This is a PREVIEW! If I hear any complaining, demanding, or general whining, I will remove this. I felt I would share what I have created, so please enjoy it for what it is, or I will make it disappear, and that's a promise. NONE of this stuff: "you should do this" "make this work" "add this", because it wont happen. I will make this a complete Ginger build as I can, and it won't be overnight!
