You must use the paid version. Google the apk. Then when you use it, you will see at the top of the in app screen it says "Mounted as r/o" next to it will be a touch sensitive button that says "Mount R/W" click that and the permissions are switched. You now have Read/Write access.

Yeah, thats what you're supposed to do.
First push it to the sdcard on your cliq, anywhere you can remember. then go on bootloader, recovery, follow directions and choose the .zip file. then flash it. tada!

I usually just do the following:

-place the bootanimation.zip in your adb directory
-set your phone to file transfer by usb
-cd to the adb directory in cmd
-adb devices
-adb remount (to check r/w)
-adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media
-turn off fial transfer to Cliq and reboot, Viola!

You could run a pull command to back up the old boot animation as well. This process works for me as long as its not a metamorph specific boot animation.

Please correct me if I am wrong, because this did work for me for a Halo Reach boot and a BIOS looking boot from simply android.

Nice bootscreen, but you should of made it noob friendly and put it into the folders and include a THM.
