    Motorola Droid Razr

I am not sure where to post this. I have a Motorola Droid Razr XT910 from Rogers in Canada and picked up a Verizon Droid Razr MAXX on ebay that had a broken screen. I swapped the parts out to make mine into a MAXX that works great. I also picked up a water damaged Verizon Droid Razr for really cheap for the screen. Is there a way to use either of the Verizon with the new parts and make it work on the Rogers network in Canada?

Not likely. Rogers uses GSM frequencies & SIM, Verizon CDMA (no SIM) for voice/text. 3G/4G frequencies are different too. Probably different antennas...touchscreen & LCD may be the only interchangeable assemblies.

I have both the Verizon phones apart - the back is off them and the batteries out. There is a memory card slot and a SIM card slot in both phones. If I install the battery in the original MAXX phone it boots up and stops at the welcome - touch the android screen and if i try and do anything it says a SIM card is needed to operate this phone. Please turn off and insert your SIM.... The other phone boots fine and I can do whatever with it - except make phone calls.

I have to say I know little about Verizon phones. As I understand, the SIM slot is for international roaming and won't work domestically - phones still have to be registered on the CDMA network. Water damage can affect anything, but the motherboard often survives.

I'll have to find it, but there's a method of hacking the chip set to allow the vzw RAZR and bionic to get gsm frequencies.

@dlamber7 Is it a hack - or are you thinking of this:
Verizon Gives Motorola LTE Razrs Their GSM Wings | PCWorld

VZW updated the s/w, but no GSM allowed in US. Droidforums is a good source for VZW info -
    gsm or cdma? and unlocking

And the latest MB611 2.3.6 needs root, since you're not busy...

It's a hack. The hack allows at&t sim cards and some devices will take tmobile sim cards too.

I need to get my hands on another cliq 2, but I can offer up ideas on that.

I'll look today for the instructions to get the gsm hack, it works on stock roms. I

Would be good to know the model numbers of the three phones you have. (I thought the Maxx was same as XT910). Then you can see if there's an .sbf available for Rogers (if they ever sold that model in the first place). Otherwise, the only way to update is OTA, which requires the sim card Verizon provides with their service. Then to use the phone on Rogers, you'd have to subsidy-unlock it, but from what I gather it won't work on their frequencies (GSM/UMTS/LTE, idk which) without the hack dlamber mentioned. And that probably wouldn't work with the new software anyway.

I think you'd need to root the phone to apply the hack (if you can find it) and install a custom rom to get it working on Rogers. Then you would be able to upgrade to ICS if & when it becomes available for your model. Droidforums, simply-android, droidcentral and xda-developers have better resources, you should check out those sites.

Sorry I've been super busy. I'll get the link today. The hack is a radio hack, not a bootloader or super user hack. It does involve using radiocomm, which is like rsdlite, and I can't provide a link to download that. Anywho, I'll get the link tonight and provide the link to the guide.
