Vodafone taking pre-orders for HTC Magic

Launch of the cupcake'd HTC Magic is near with Vodafone opening the doors for pre-orders, expected to be shipped by May 5. The phone goes free with a £30 monthly plan.

I installed the software for the Magic on my G1 this morning. The RC33 build on it is significantly better than our standard G1 RC33. I'm having trouble with the market though (downloading). Until I get that straightened out, I may switch back (will give up video recording, sending video by MMS, native on screen keyboard and so much more) Either way, the Magic doesn't seem to offer much more than the Dream. Except maybe that it's slimmer and has a better camera. Hmmm... me thinks Cupcake on G1 will offer same thing anyway.

I keep hearing mid to late april. I'm not sure how accurate that is though, as I originally heard it was to release early april. By my calendar, it's the 18th already.
**EDIT**
On another note, I did finally get a download out of the market on the new ROM - ASTRO. I just re-installed all of the programs from my backup. This phone's just ridiculous now. If you don't mind your phone taking about 3 hours to download a program, i'd suggest doing an ASTRO backup, upgrading like I did, and reinstall everything.

I agree with The Spirit - I still prefer my G1 with it's hardware keyboard and once Android 1.5 is finally released there'll be no real benefit to having the Magic in my view.

Yeah I saw in http://www.htc.com/ that Vodafone has taken pre-orders for HTC Magic but there isn't any official announcement from them about the exact release date. So I think that May 5 might be a rumour.

Vodafone's April update email to affiliates a few weeks back confirmed pre-orders for the 17th April and official release on the 1st May. So far their dates have been accurate.

So does the Vodafone version work on US edge? I know that 3G won't but what about edge?
