Motorola Agrees to Unlocked Bootloaders, with a catch.

We all know how painful it has been for Android developers to release content for Motorola phones due to their tendency to lock down their bootloaders, thus preventing any actual modifications to take place. The obvious exception is the Motorola Droid and it is only so because it was Google's flagship phone. Some Motorola phones including the Droid X and Milestone have been able to a certain extent to be modified by utilizing some obscure workarounds.
It now seems Motorola has finally listened to its customer database and has now acknowledged it will pass on the responsibility to the carrier/provider of the phone. Where the carriers agrees then Motorola will offer users a way to unlock the bootloader on their phone, thus giving developers a green light to work almost at will.
AusDroid claims to have contacted Motorola and recieved the following reply:
Which was later backed up by Motorola's Director of Communications Will Moss with the following:We completely understand the operator requirement for security to the end user, and as well, want to support the developer communities desire to use these products as a development platform. It is our intention to enable the unlockable/relockable bootloader currently found on Motorola XOOM across our portfolio of devices starting in late 2011, where carriers and operators will allow it.
For more information stay tuned to MOTODEVI can confirm that the quote you have is accurate, but I can’t add anything at this time other than that further information will be released via MOTODEV (http://www.motorola.com/developer) as it becomes available.

You see, madness, as you know, is like gravity. All it takes is a little push.
