Housing for g1

I recently found on ebay that you can buy the housing for your phone. For instance I have a white g1, and on ebay I can buy the white part(the plastic) and install it for myself. so i plan on Buying a whole new housing and then putting a whole body cover on it but i also want to put a mirror screen protector on there. so should i get a cheap 10 dollar phone cover and cut out the screen part?
