wants to Root my Htc magic

i want to Root my htc magic its Vodafone it was 1.6 and got update of 2.2.1 now my Question is how to Root my device or degrade my firmware so my device work fine cuz im getting lots of error .. after updating
one more thing i dont knw how to Root so if any 1 help me by guiding me how root htc magic in simple way step by step that would B awsum and also teme that which rom is stable and best if i root my device dont knw abt Rom nor root :S

After reading more, you might have to downgrade from 2.2.1 to 1.6 or 1.5

Yep, doesnt work for 2.2.1, so you can either check around for downgrading or use this:

and after rooting, you can follow the rest of the "androot" guide to install recovery and flash a ROM
