Gone to Factory Resetting - Want to Unlock
Hi,
I unlocked my G1 through Tmobile Unlock code got it from them officially. I gave to my brother in India. He accidently did the "Factory Resetting".Now the phone is asking for the Gmail id and expecting the Tmobile Connection. He is using a local telephone provide SIM card there. Moreover now it is not asking for the unlocking code, eventhough he is using a Indian Teleprovider SIM card. It is directly connecting the Tmobile and asking for Google account. Could please anyone help me to get rid of it. I will go back to india on march only. Will he be able to unlock once again.
Note: he doesn't have a data plan. Moreover we do tried changing the APN setting as per another thread in this same forum. Please help me.
Thankyou!!!

He has to have a data plan. I believe the phone stays unlocked (I THINK so, don't hold me to that) But he has to have a data plan to activate it.

No problem, and also I you may have already done this but whatever carrier you are using make sure that you choose the correct APN settings. I.E. don't just choose the AT&T APN settings off here and expect it to work. But just google it and use those APN settings and any cheap data plan should work as long as you have the APN settings. Also I am now positive it will stay unlocked. I bough a Dev Phone 1 from Google and I just did a factory restore to jailbreak and I am still unlocked even after flashing a modded rc30.

yeah, the phone remains unlocked after factory reset, you have to activate it again though. Indian carrier settings are here.

well to make sure keep your unlock code... it's matched to your IMEI so it would work again on the same phone if need be. but it shouldn't remove the unlock even after the reset.
Chris

After long delay... I have now made it back to the Android Market!

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!
I have a similar problem. I bought my phone brand new and unlocked online. When i recieved it, it had another persons gmail entered into to the phone. I tried to contact the company i bought it from to ask why but i got no reply. I decided to reset it to the factory settings because i was worried what else might be on my phone from this person. When my phone restarted it went into the set up for your google account. I have a data package with Rogers wireless (canada) but i was never able to get it to work on my phone. now i cant get past the set up page. I dont know what to do!!! Please if anyone can help please let me know!!!!

One solution to this problem would be to flash JF1.43 ADP1.1 on the phone. Then you can skip entering your google account info at powerup, connect to wifi, and then enter the google account info.
Note: You have to have a rooted (jailbroken) phone to do this.

Well, it depends what firmware version you're running now, and whether you have root access. If you don't have root access you need to do this first http://modmygphone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10371 and then this http://modmygphone.com/wiki/index.php/Updating_to_RC30 and finally get JF1.43 ADP1.1 here: http://modmygphone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15781. If your phone is already jailbroken you can skip to the last step. Once JF1.43 ADP1.1 is on your phone, you can skip the google login until your WIFI is connected. The trouble is getting to that step. If you're already locked out due to a factory reset then you probably will have trouble performing those steps. My best advice if that is the case would be borrowing someone's T-Mobile SIM to get you in and then do the above to get to ADP1.1. Once you get that done you won't get locked out by another factory reset.
