Hi,
I have been reading a few posts here and noticed that all of you have been working hardly on unlocking G1 and other HTC/Android phone.
My idea is to get and give some ideas on how to create o design a software of such utility, I mean, SIM unlock an Android phone.
As it seems, any Android with a Carrier SIM Lock donīt allow any other SIMcard carrier to use the cellphone as such.
But, this locking is due a number verification on the SIM Card, this is called IMSI and itīs hardcoded by the carrier (not HTC/Motorola/etc factory) using a broad list of SIMCard numbers that it had internationally registered for such identification worldwide.
As it seems, this is only a software locking that verifies at startup this code and prevents to connect with the SIM any further if the codes doesnīt belong to the company.
So, if itīs a service running in the background a root user could easyly kill it throu command line.
Other way is to feed the "service" with a value (hardcoded as a variable)in another app that runs in the background.
I think those approaches has been used already by de DevTeam that SIMFree the iphone, with (I guess) this kind of techniques.
So, does anyone have a different idea?
(Please, If you all gonna say is "Buy a unlocked phone" please, I will just answer "Go use W7 and be happy")
ok these is interesting, since I've been work hard for unlocking my hardlocked cliq. I manage to bypass the SIM check using AMPS/CDMA SIM card(I'm in Asia) the problem is there's no network sign but stop sign. I guess it's bcoz the different network band, but my cliq do read the SIM card and I can start using the wifi to activate my motoblur account. I haven't try the jumpering simcard method since I don't know how to..proly it will clear the hardcoded IMSI,well it's just theory If anyone have guide for jumpering the sim card provide me I will gladly tried it
