    Unlocking vs root access

    Hi
I am new to the android market. Will unlocking a phone help in getting root access on a phone? I looked at getting root access - I have a HTC Magic phone but all the instructions I looked at seems to indicate one should press buttons I do not have on my phone... (I picked up that by pressing the trackball, followed by start-home-end cause a soft reboot - tried it and it seemed to work).
Or can one obtain root access in locked phone?
    Please help me understand...

Hi im new myself to this lovely venue.

Unlocking your phone i.e. use of the subsidy code just enable the phone to be used on another networks belonging to other service providers.

Rooting a phone - give you total control of the OS software on the phone - enabling you to add programs and features previously blocked by the OS software. Rooting does NOT unlock the hardware of the phone to other providers - only the OS software and that allows you to add stuff.

If you want total freedom - buy the unlock code from the service provider and also root it for free here - then you can do whatever you want with it.

    Have fun.

Orange Dext owner runing with US Tmobile rom and very happy.
