Activate G1 with Sidekick Data Plan?
I tried without success to Activating my G1 with two different plans. With the Standard $19.99 unlimited plan and the Sidekick Data plan. I always get the error that states it can't connect to the Google Servers.
Has Anyone activated a G1 with a Sidekick data plan or any other plan, if so is there anything I need to do make this connect.

You cannot use the Sidekick plan for the G1, you need the specified plan for the G1, which is the 3G Data plan. The Data plan is 24.99 for 400 messages, email and Instant message and unlimited web, or the unlimited web + unlimited messages for 34.99

superg05 it's not just about that... Some of us don't have good enough credit.. Anyway I really hope somebody is still watching this thread because I have an idea...
Once the G1 has been unlocked using global sim or whatever the overpriced unlocker of the day is. I have a feeling the Sidekick prepaid would work then, on an UNLOCKED G1 but can anyone confirm?

I doubt it. The sidekick uses special systems, like the blackberry. It's its own network tunnel.

If you change the APN settings to reflect those of the Sidekick or for example onmy end.. the Blackberry you can
my settings and the only change I had to make was..
I changed from APN
EPC.tmobile.com
to
internet2.voicestream.com
thatis how I activated it and ran it
I use WIFI at home and also use just limited internet access that doesnt need to be blazing fast..
So that works for me
Let me know if you have any questions

I can confirm that you do NOT need a special data plan to activate a G1. i bought a used G1, went to t-mobile and got a sim card activated with the Sidekick plan. did a hard reset on my phone to get rid of the previous users information(which is how i learned you have to have a special data plan just to use it and went looking for a way) , reboot the phone in safe mode, add a new APN with the sidekick information(will post full tutorial if anyone is interested) then activated wifi.
I have full features, MMS is tested, my service status shows up as "3G" and i'm able to browse the web, use aim, marketplace. basically use everything in the phone with a sidekick plan. let me know if you need more info.

I have a G1 phone and am trying to activate it with the sidekick plan. I changed the APN to hiptop.t-mobile.com, but it still doesn't work. What else did you have to do?
