Hi. I have an unlocked G1 that I'd like to activate on AT&T. Do I need to get the iPhone 3G data plan to get "full" functionality with the G1, or is the MediaNet Unlimited plan enough? (I do understand I won't get 3G service either way--just wondering if the cheaper plan will cover the data needs of this phone)
You should be able to sign up w/o a contract. I work at an agent store and have setup a few no commitment activations in the past few months. There's no reason why you should have to commit to anything if you aren't buying any equipment from AT&T or one of it's stores.
I just got my gphone goin yesterday, unlocked it and activated through wifi. woohhh!!! But anyhow, I was wonderin, does the phones default setting use the network internet or is it set to use "wifi as default" kinda thing? I've been browsing the market for apps and getting my email but am kinda worried since I don't have my data plan yet. (Hopefully going and setting it up today.)
Also, what does the medianet plan consist of? Just internet access? or email as well? I've got an unlimited texting plan already so I'm not looking to spend all that much more ..
If you haven't put in the AT&T APN settings in yet, I would assume you're on wifi. The Media Net feature is internet access to whatever you need it for. It should only be $10 more for it since you have the unlimited messaging feature already. Media Net is now called just plain old Data now btw.
media net works perfect, theres no reason to be on the iphone data plan with the g1 since the only real difference is that it supports 3g and our g1's arent compatible with at&t's 3g service so itll work just fine, there is a somewhat noticable difference between 3g and edge but if you have wifi available where it counts then youll be just fine, i had the g1 on the media net for a month before i opted out to pay off some bills before i added it again.
