the ear mic is attached to the Flex cable on the LCD
the mouth mic is attached to the flex cable under the keypad

if you have another v3 that is the same model you could swap the mobo from one to the other without too much disassembly. for a guide on how to disassemble Go HERE

Yea, the microphone is part of the keyboard flex cable - btw, that's an excellent guide for either V3 or V3i.

    As for your problem -

Quick answer: get another phone. Way hard to replace mic.

    Long answer (if you must):

Make sure your dead spare is same model V3/V3r/V3re. V3 & V3r hardware is completely interchangeable, V3re display doesn't work with V3/V3r base, but key flex is the same. V3i, if you've mistaken it for a V3 (surprising that many do), is completely incompatible, can not be used.

V3re can be identified by three tabs on battery cover, if it hasn't been replaced; outer base housing has indents next to the screw heads where the outer tabs can fit.

Easiest fix is like zedbra said - just swap the base module into the dead phone. However, my experience is that dead phones aren't caused by bad base module, even if water damaged - usually it's the keyboard flex cable.

Like I said, get another phone.

haha, i have been known to talk out of another area too

just wanted to cover all bases. not sure if the problem was with the earphone or the mic. either way, changing the corresponding flex cable should resolve the issue unless it lies somewhere else.
i agree tho, it really is not worth the effort. swap bottoms and see if it works, otherwise maybe we can help repair the alleged dead phone

Hadn't heard that one. To my eye, the digitizer (ADC) sits next to the mic, which would obviate analog interference toward the base connector. Regardless, key flex replacement is indicated.

Have you done any mods to the phone at all? Particularly to the volumes (gain table?)
