Thread: **Read Before Flashing**

Collaboration of Help Files.. READ B4 POSTING!
I am going to post a list of common mods that are asked for repetivly and this list will be continued as more are made.
Section 1: Basics of modding
-getting connected
-New Getting Connected
-Backing up: before any mods are ever done, BACK UP! Don't want a brick now do you?
-Unlocking: the safest way is to have a service do it, but for those who are brave, there are a few programs out there such as "p2k easy tools" which after getting connected, can work. The favoured versions are 3.7 and 3.9; go here to get it!
-Next Step - Flashing/Flexing, installing new firmware(flash) and flexware. Firmware just affects such things a signal, battery efficiency etc. Flex is where you get down to such things as carrier branding; changing this will erase your phonebook, tones, etc. Drm's are the icons on the phone. A popular thing are monster packs(mp's) which include a drm, lp(language packs), flash(firmware) and flex. you can get these file here. In order to put these on your you need a program such as MFF(multi flash flex) and i personally recommend RSD Lite(new version is 3.3). You will have to google for RSD lite as it is warez and links can't be posted.
-Seem edits: this is the next step into modding in which you can change specifics such as sms storage etc.
-Skins (the graphix on the phone) another step into modding which is pretty simple. get skins here
-The last of the easyness, ringtones and other things... for game or java installation follow this guide.
-Changing the outer lcd pic when flip is open. To do this, create a .gif image with the dimension 96x80 and name it cl.gif (has to be .gif but cant be animated.) and replace the cl.gif in /a/mobile/system/
Section 2: getting in deeper... much deeper
-Common seem edits
--funlights
--Changing the outer lcd pic on the go!
--Carrier text(alpha tag) change
--More text storage: go and get seem 0032_001. Edit offset 40 by changing bit 6 to 0. this will store ms on the phone instead of the sim.
----the seem map, check this to see all possibilities
the rest to be continued, i have homework to do!Last edited by apristel; 03-08-2007 at 05:31 PM. Reason: added new getting connected guide.

**Read Before Flashing**
Please make sure you are flashing the correct software to your phone. Not doing this can and will result in a BRICK!
Since you are reading this in the V3 RAZR forum, you should know that you need to flash only softwares starting with R374. To see what model V3 RAZR you have, please enter *#9999# on your phone and look at the software (s/w) listed on your screen. If you enter *#9999# and nothing happens, more than likely you don't have a GSM V3. An alternate to typing *#9999# is to go to the "Phone Status --> Other Information" in the "Settings" menu.
Unless you are made of money and can afford new phones left and right, it is best to know what you have and what you are doing BEFORE you actually do it.

Now that you've been warned, Flash on.
