Prepaid service on a Motorola Droid (or Milestone) in US?

Has anyone set up prepaid service on a Motorola Droid (or Milestone) in the US? I'm looking for feedback and recommendations.

I love the phone and Android 2.0, Google Voice integration, Dolphin browser, etc.

I am not currently locked in to any carrier. I'm just looking for the best prepaid voice & data plan that will support all features of the Droid, including turn-by-turn navigation. (BTW, is cellular data always required for the GPS to work well, or will the GPS get a fix quickly even where there is no internet connection at all?)

I only need cellular voice and 3g data a few days a month. I don't want to pay for a normal monthly contract. But I want all features of the phone to work when I need them.

    Any recommendations?

Currently, the Milestone hasn't been released, and there's no chance Verizon will use the DROID as a prepaid phone.

Also, when the Milestone is released, it will be in Europe, with 3g bands that don't work in the US. There are currently no official plans for a GSM version of the DROID/Milestone on AT&T or T-Mobile.

So.... bad news all around. I think when there's a US-capable GSM Milestone, then you could put a Prepaid SIM in it. I'm not 100% about that, though.

Why are people saying they already have the Milestone? It is also for sale on Amazon.de, but delivery is estimated for December.

    I don't mind waiting a few weeks.

The Euro milestone is supposed to support these frequencies:

    • GSM 1800
    • GSM 1900
    • GSM 850
    • GSM 900
    • WCDMA 2100
    • WCDMA 900

That would make it compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile in US at 2g speed/edge, but not at 3g speeds.
2g would be OK for me when I don't have WiFI.

Well, I might be behind the times on the Milestone, then

If you're ok without 3g, it would probably work fine. You'd have to unlock it and put in the correct network settings. I think you'd have to find out which prepaid service has data access, etc.
