If you get an SMS and take your 9700 out of the holster, unlock it and the sms opens straight away then when you go back to the home page the little red star is still there alerting you that you have an sms. Here is the solution

Go to your message option>general options>auto open newest message = never

or you can simply delete your clear messages database....
