Heres the long and short of it:
BlackBerry OS's are labeled first and foremost as a package number. The actual OS number is only a PART of the package. I have an 8900 and an OS release for mine reads like this.
BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.6.1.317 (Multilanguage)
Package Version: 4.6.1.317
Consisting of:
Applications: 4.6.1.206
Software Platform: 4.2.0.102
File name: 8900M_PBr4.6.1_rel317_PL4.2.0.102_A4.6.1.206.exe
File size: 122.34MB
See? The package is .317, and the OS version is listed as "Application" and is .206
Download the OS you want to install. Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader and delete the VENDOR.XML file.
Then, in the same open folder, double click "APPLOADER" and let the install begin!!!
