help!! g1 not booting pass recovery!

ok so here's the problem my Tmobile G1 wont boot pass the recovery screen.i see this text on screen after pressing alt+L

reboot system now
apply sd card:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition

E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command


when i reboot it goes right back to recovery. when i wipe data it restarts and goes right back into recovery.

i tried putting the rc28 on it with failure and the same for any other update i try. it gets halfway then aborts the rest. also i went to the tmobile store to see what they can do and they had no idea how to go further then doing a hard reset

is the phone Rooted??
were you trying to install a custom ROM?? and if so, did you make a Nand backup??

tell us what you did for this to happen so we can better assist you
im not too familiar with the G1, but did you try flashing a stock G1 ROM. i think you can do a factory restore with HTC Sync.

the phone was rooted at one point. i think it unroot itself because its at the stock recovery not the custom one i had on there..

my brother just gave it back to me like this. didnt tell me what happened or anything. whats htc sync?

any one canh help me. i really miss this fone...

without knowing what caused the issue, a fix is very hard to say. If it was rooted, and became unrooted, its possible an update caused the damage. I would start the root proccess over again.

it was rooted. i cant update it. i tried to flash a couple of updates' i found on the site some would get half way then just abort and other would just not be verified
