MT3GS Root Guide

Before you begin

Download: MT3GS_Root.rar
Password: Thread Id in URL above!!!

Download: gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip
Place on SDcard and flash after CM7.0.3 ROM to have Android Market

Confirm:

Confirm that you have a T-Mobile MyTouch 3G Slide. Confirm that you have the latest 2.2.1 OTA update, if not you can manually upgrade with the files included. (This requires that you have HTC Sync installed first)
This will give you root access and a custom recovery image so you can begin flashing custom ROMs, CyanogenMod 7.0.3 & the StockROM w/ROOT Access are both included in this package. Please choose one! If you want to flash (install) a different ROM feel free to search the web for one!
The Unlockr ROMs

THIS WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY!!! I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR DEVICE.

Instructions:

1. Install HTC Sync.
File Location: (MT3GS_ROOT\Step 1. HTC Sync)

2. Install Latest 2.2.1 T-Mobile Update manually. (If necessary)
File Location: (MT3GS_ROOT\Step 2. Offical T-Mobile 2.2 Update)

3. Extract AndroidSDK and place it on your local “C:/” drive.
File Location: (MT3GS_ROOT\Step 3. AndroidSDK)

4. Create a Gold Card using Tool Provided.
File Location: (MT3GS_ROOT\Step 4. Gold Card Tool)

5. Add the Stock Firmware to your SDcard. (Leave as .zip file DO NOT EXTRACT)
File Location: (MT3GS_ROOT\Step 5. Stock Firmware)

6. Add the ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.0.7 to your SDcard. (Leave as .zip file DO NOT EXTRACT)
File Location: (MT3GS_ROOT\Step 6. ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.0.7)

7. Run SuperOneClick v1.9.5.0 and make sure your phone is connected via USB with USB Debugging ON. Now press Shell Root and let it run you should get a success pop up.
File Location: (MT3GS_ROOT\Step 7. SuperOnceClick)

8. Add Custom Rom to SDcard. (Leave as .zip file DO NOT EXTRACT)
File Location: (MT3GS_ROOT\Step 8. Custom ROMs)

9. Run the Command Prompt (Hold “WinKey + r” then type “cmd” press “enter”)
Type The Following pressing “enter” after each line, in order not skipping anything!
cd\
cd c:\AndroidSDK\tools\
adb devices (you should get your devices serial)
adb push flash_image /data/local
adb push mtd0.img /data/local
adb shell
cd /data/local
chmod 04755 *
/data/local/flash_image misc /data/local/mtd0.img

10. Once complete, power off the T-Mobile MyTouch 3G Slide.

11. Hold the Volume Down button while powering on, until the device is in bootloader mode.

12. After a minute or so, the device will ask you if you want to run the update. Press the Volume Up button to accept & apply the update.
NOTE: (IF YOU GET AN ERROR MSG THAT THE ZIP VERSION IS OLDER THEN THE PHONE VERSION YOUR GOLDCARD WAS MADE WRONG!!!)

13. Once the device is finished applying the update, it will ask you to reboot.
Do NOT (Don’t) reboot the device, Instead press the Volume Down button to tell the device not to!

14.Back at the bootloader menu, use Volume Down to highlight Recovery and press the Power button to boot into the recovery.

15. Once in the recovery, you will see a device with a triangle. Press Volume Up & the Power button.

16. Use the Volume Down button to highlight Apply update.zip & press the Power button to select this.

17. After a moment, the T-Mobile MyTouch 3G Slide will boot into the ClockworkMod Recovery.

18. Flash Zip From SDcard (this is going to be where you flash the custom ROM)

The mytouch 3gs is a nandlocked device, so traditional rooting isn't an option. There is an exploit specifically for the mt3gs, I found in on theunlockr here's the link http://theunlockr.com/2010/08/16/how...xploid-method/

Ah ok. Can you update your OP as you go thru the steps yourself so others can follow what you're going thru incase they need to do it as well? It would definitely be beneficial to the community
