Captivate "could not save the network"

So, I just bought a captivate from someone on Kijiji (maybe that statement dammed me already)It seems to be pretty modified and has some custom ROM of 2.2 on it. After I got it I did a factory wipe to get all his personal stuff off it.
Whenever I try to connect to my wifi network I get a message saying "could not save the network" and it does not connect.
It would make unlocking the phone a LOT easier and save me a lot of money if I could get this working.

I should also note the following:
The phone is rooted (obv)
And I am getting bars at the top

I would suggest you do an odin back to stock and see if you still have the same issue. If you don't find directions and files to odin let me know and I'll search and post links for you.
