Europeans Realize Dream of a Single Charger for All Cellphones

Cellphone battery dead? No problem: Just borrow a charger from a friend. Oh, wait — you can’t, because your friend doesn’t have the same phone as you, and his charger won’t work with your phone.

That annoyance will end next year, for Europeans at least. Thanks to the efforts of the European Commission, most cellphones sold in Europe will have a one-size-fits-all charger starting in 2011. So far, 10 major cellphone makers, including Apple, Motorola, Samsung and Research In Motion, have signed on to the agreement.

Shame though, they opted for the Micro USB. where everybody already had the Mini USB cable from the Camera, or Playstation anyway. So even if they made a rule, they just want to sell us more stuff every time.
And wait and see, the resistance will not fit, lol. So while you have a Motorola, you still will not be able to use a Nokia Charger, By full compliance to the new Law, they will still cook their own soups.

I like the new concept, My LG uses the same charger as my V8 also my friends Nokia and my friends Samsung, so if I take my charger to work, they can all use it.

MicroUSB is the future (well... USB 3.0 is but you get the point lol), MiniUSB is outdated already. Nokia is also using microUSB in a lot of their phones too.

I have a feeling Apple is gonna try to get them all to use the Apple-style connector, and if RIM, Samsung, Motorola, etc. refuse, Apple is gonna go crying to to the media about how much better their connector is, even though multiple iPhones and iPods around the globe have overheated and almost killed their owners.

Whooooa, Apple would possibly give up a$$backwards, proprietary connector? Yea right. And Nokia caught-up with USB and pin charging in their latest devices.
