I need an official update.zip, can't find one.
I rooted my sister's phone, all was well from last night up until this morning. I was going to leave her phone stock, and just have autostarts and some other apps make her phone faster. But then I got testy, and wanted to install Cyanogen, and now her phone doesn't work. I can get into recovery, and when I try to install the backup I took of her *original ROM, the phone won't start; just stops at the "mytouch" bootscreen. The backup worked last night, so I know I have a good backup. Through this process, is there any way to make it so your phone won't accept updates, or what?
Last night, it had 2.2.1, was NOT a fender edition, was 32B
Today, I installed the Death SPL to help Cyanogen run, but the situation wasn't any worse before I did that.
I've done proper wipes every time.
Bottom line, the phone doesn't seem to take an update.

hmmm, that's interesting. I dont know too much about the Magic. they seem to be quirky.
did you update the Radio before flashing the custom ROM??
its my understanding that you gotta flash the Radio, SPL, and then the Update.zip for it to work properly.
just as a side note, when running a custom ROM you wont get official OTA updates to the phone, and if you were to install the new official update your ROOT will be undone and returned to normal.

htc magic cyanogen roms actually require the original radio. there are some modified versions out for different radio versions. what radio version is it?

Hey guys..
I don't have her phone anymore, and I can't remember what radio version she has. I ended up getting her phone working again by installing a dev 1.6 update from the HTC dev site. I think she may still have root, but she's kinda bummed she's at 1.6 and can't seem to manually search for a 2.2 update.
All good though for now.
I did read somewhere that you have to update in that order - radio, spl, etc., but I thought this was old information and I thought I'd be all set by just installing the ROM since most modders include all updates needed nowadays. I don't think I'll try updating to a custom ROM when she gives me her phone again; instead, I think I'll try to just get root, and then set the phone up like I had it before, with Autostarts, etc. My main goal was just to make her phone faster and kill the stock apps running in the background.· White Moto Cliq · CM6.2 · Launcher Pro ·
